Busan Mayor Wants BTS Approved for Alternative Military Service

I don’t like the alternative military service for celebrities especially since a number of celebrities went and completed their military service and successfully restarted their careers afterwards:

Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon has proposed allowing the members of K-pop superband BTS to replace their military duties with alternative service as public relations ambassadors for the city’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo, officials said Thursday.

The government formally appointed the septet last month as a PR ambassador in charge of promoting the Expo bid, for which Busan is competing with cities in Italy and Saudi Arabia.

Mayor Park recently made the proposal asking the presidential office to grant BTS the alternative military service benefit currently available to athletes and artists who helped elevate national prestige or cultural advancement, according to officials.

Alternate military service means an alternate level of citizenship.

But then, rich people are so much better than the unwashed masses, eh?

But those who choose not to serve their counrry in the military will never really know what freedom tastes like. They will, however, be jealous of the chance at manhood they threw away, and more likely to enslave others.

Meanwhile, BTS should do their duty.

It’s probably an attempt by the Mayor of Busan to earn points with the younger voters.

He’s probably thinking ahead to the elections ahead, especially the Presidential one at 2027, so he’ll probably do a few things to get attention and points.

However, I don’t think the Busan Mayor’s proposal won’t go anywhere, and most people will either forget or won’t care.

And considering the mess the Yoon administration is in and Yoon’s spat with former PPP head Lee Jun-seok, they probably will try to avoid doing things that might invite backlash from the younger male voters.

Not like BTS is going to swing the voting from oil money Saudi Arabia. Saudi 2030 is probably in the bag already.

I concur with GIKorea. It should be noted that several hundred thousand Americans served in Korea since 1945. Upwards of 40,000 made the Ultimate Sacrifice. It is only right that Korean citizens defend their own country.

Make them serve, every other ROK male has to, most of those serving probably sing better than these ass clowns too.
