When Maria’s deaths were measured using the “direct death” method, the count was 64, slightly less than Harvey’s 68 (using more or less the same method). But Puerto Rico preferred to use the “excess death” method, which looks for higher than normal death rates over the course of the six-month period following a disaster, for its official count. That method yielded a count of 2975 for Maria. No such study was ever done for Harvey, so we don’t know what the comparable numbers would have been. Alas, journalists don’t bother to read (or apparently even skim) the things they write about. And God forbid that they should make an effort to look at the dissenting opinions contained in a report.

A couple thoughts while I take a break from studying.
– keep your skills updated and relevant
– make statements like “Amazing that so many vaccinated people I know caught covid.”
If the other person says, “Well I know a vaccinated person that didn’t catch covid,” you know you are dealing with someone of a low IQ. People with low IQs are unable to understand abstract concepts or statistics. When they focus on the exception rather than the rule, they demonstrate where they sit on the Bell curve. Nothing you can explain will increase their IQ. Walk away.
This is a great filter to avoid shìt humanity.
– at a certain age, if you are successful, you have an obligation to mentor younger people. If people don’t have their shìt slightly together by 26, they are generally unhelpable. If someone is a screw up at 30, they will always be a screw up.
In my experience, self-awareness is the most important trait to look for. A guy that knows he is screwed up but wants to change is better than a guy who is too proud to acknowledge his faults.
– if you mentor a group of guys, the haters with no followers and no power will talk endless shìt about you.
Don’t worry about this. If you are correctly mentoring, your followers will laugh this off. The haters have nothing to offer. Every guidance you give has clear benefits.
Of course you are using your followers to accomplish your own goals. This makes the haters hate. But in return, you are giving much more to your followers. Some day, they will be where you are, as you were once there. The haters don’t see this. Your followers do.
– Stay away from drugs. Life is hard enough. Maybe after you retire?
– recognize that most people are unengaged. Stop hating them for being in the way and bringing trouble on you through complacency and ignorance. Use them. You will go from hating everyone to appreciating them and wanting more of them. This will make your daily life happier.
I have lots more… but I have stuff to do.

At 19, I was a screwup who flunked out of a university. By 25, I got my ducks lined up without shooting them and not only got my grades up but completed an AA degree. By 30, I had earned my way through the initial university (Bachelor of Science), was inducted into a national honor society, and hired by a premier IT firm. 30-odd years later, I’m still employed in IT. And 5 years cancer-free. All by the grace of the Creator God who Ephesians 2:10 states has work for me to do.
None of really us want what we deserve (yes, that includes me, too). But God, through Christ, offers us an undeserved chance to be set free from that. Because He loved us even though we hated Him. Romans 3:23, 5:8, 6:23, 8:1, 10:13. It cost Him so much; but it’s offered freely to us.
Wake up and smell the brimstone before it’s too late.
