Korean Prosecutors Seek Arrest Warrant for Ex-Defense Minister

This will be pretty significant if the prosecutors succeed in arresting the former ROK Defense Minister over the death of the fishery official by the North Koreans two years ago:

Former Defense Minister Suh Wook (L) and former Coast Guard Commissioner General Kim Hong-hee (Yonhap)

Prosecutors sought arrest warrants Tuesday for former Defense Minister Suh Wook and former Coast Guard Commissioner General Kim Hong-hee in an investigation into the previous administration’s handling of the 2020 death of a fisheries official at the hands of North Korea.

The two are facing various charges, including dereliction of duty, abuse of power and creating false official documents in connection with the Moon Jae-in administration’s conclusion without sufficient evidence that the fisheries official was killed while attempting to defect to the North.

Critics have accused the Moon administration of drawing the conclusion to curry favor with Pyongyang.

Prosecutors suspect Suh deliberately erased intelligence reports that suggest the official, Lee Dae-jun, did not intend to defect, and ordered officials to write false facts for a report for the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Kim — who was responsible for an investigation into the death at the time — is under suspicion of using fabricated facts to conclude that Lee had intended to defect.

I freely admit to not understanding what appears to be petty bickering; but I assume the prosecutors know the law and intend to punish communists, not just go after political rivals…

So setnaffa.

I wonder if you would have said the same thing had Lee Jae Myung been President instead of Yoon Seok-ryul. and the prosecutors were investigation Kim Kunhee for stock price manipulation.

I can’t speak for Setnaffa, but I support the idea of throwing commies out of helicopters no matter what political party the align with.

Who is Kim Kunhee?

I don’t actually follow Korean politics other than the harmless antics of show trials and kangaroo courts for former Presidents (which typically makes South Korean leftists look like they’re running a banana republic instead of a Western Democracy).

And yes, pretty much all South Korean Presidents — including the gwnerals — have been leftists, with the possible exception of Kim Young Sam. DJ, Roh, and Moon were just the extremists. But few actually promoted freedom of dpeech, freedom of religion, freedom of association, etc.

Granted, the Japanese, the Norkistanis and the Chinese have been disreputable influences in Korean politics, the South Korean people have not really pressed for much more actual freedom. They seem to like the status quo, as long as the boot on their neck allows them a certain standard of living.

That’s not really a negative thing. They must decide their own fate; but calling Yoon “right wing” after Moon’s fascist COVID-19 policies is laughable.
