I’ve been seeing a lot of this “emperor” and “president for life” rhetoric, but doesn’t Xi have to go through all of this again in five years? Am I missing something? Is the idea that, now that Xi has broken tradition by snagging a third term, the sky’s the limit, à la Putin’s own power grab? Someone please set me straight.

Yes, but unlike the two previous Chinese leaders who stepped down after their second term, Xi is not stepping down and having the CCP rubber stamp his term extension while removing those from the other factions.

Who knows, one day he may decide to get rid of the five year term altogether.

Makes sense, TOK. Thank you.

Please refer to the Chinese leader by his proper title: Winnie the Eleventh (XI), Grand Pooh-ba of Asia.
