University Investigates Korean First Lady’s Masters Thesis for Plagiarism
|The attacks against the Korean First Lady continue. She was cleared of plagiarizing her Phd dissertation. Now her Master’s thesis is being investigated for plagiarism:
Sookmyung Women’s University launched an inquiry last month into plagiarism allegations involving first lady Kim Keon Hee’s master’s degree thesis on art education, sources said Tuesday.
Kim has been under allegations that she plagiarized the dissertation, which she submitted in 1999 to the university’s graduate school of education for her master’s degree.
Sookmyung began a probe into Kim’s case in mid-December, an alumni association of the university said, citing a letter sent from the school. The final result is expected to be out by around mid-March if relevant regulations requiring an outcome within 90 days upon such a probe’s launch are observed.

Kim has already been mocked & shamed publicly and she apologized for her prior resume padding actions. What is going on here is that this is likely retaliation for the investigations into Lee Jae-myung’s wife for when her husband was governor of Gyeongi province. What I would like to see is an investigation into the thesis and dissertations of all major political figures in Korea. How widespread is this problem?
A couple of points.
Well, she is a controversial figure and the butt of jokes among many Koreans.
But I wouldn’t say it’s a coordinated attack like you are suggesting.
Yes and No.
Although a Kookmin University panel did clear her, there are doubts on whether they took in all the evidence and made an objective decision and whether the investigation and the ensuing result was a formality so they wouldn’t take any flak from the Presidential Office and the First Lady.
There’s also still the matter of her Masters dissertation.
Yes in a way, but it was more of a public show and she didn’t exactly convey remorse during that press conference.
She also didn’t apologize for plagiarizing, so that’s fair game, I’m afraid.
Maybe, maybe not.
But as I said, she is a controversial figure with a not so stellar image and record, so she’s fair game to some people.
To be fair, she is trying to clean up her image, but unfortunately she seems to have trouble giving up some of her old habits and/or she tries too hard which ends up backfiring.
Just to give you an idea on her not so stellar reputation, a scrap from the LeMonde which once called the First Lady a “call girl”
Don’t take the French seriously.
They are just trying to move attention away from the uncomfortable fact that their first lady was a married teacher who had sex with a 25 year younger student in her care.
TOK, if you’re Korean, you have to know how damaging this controversy is to South Korea’s international reputation.
Are you okay with that? Is finding out that a person you never voted into office is a sinner just like every other person who ever lived and ever will live a cause to slime your country?
Because, you know how this works. Now all East Asians will think all South Koreans are liars and plagiarists. And the women are all hookers
Good job, TOK. Well-played.
For Beijing, that is.
@setnaffa.
You do know you are blowing this thing way out of proportion.
And besides many Koreans think that Yoon and his wife are an embarrassment when they go overseas.
Don’t you think Macron and the French First Lady was briefed on the Le Monde article?
Maybe Korean Person is right.
You are desperate to see Yoon remain in office.
