South Korea Sets New Record Low for Child Births

The birthrate continues to decline significantly in South Korea:

A total of 18,982 babies were born in November, plunging 4.3 percent from the previous year, according to the data from Statistics Korea. It marked the lowest number for any November since the statistics agency started compiling related data in 1981.

South Korea remains dogged by a chronic decline in childbirths as many young people delay or give up on having babies in the face of an economic slowdown and high home prices.

Over the January-November period, a total number of 231,863 babies were born, down 4.7 percent from a year earlier.

This is a good thing.

I realize there are still a lot of places not covered in concrete and there are rivers that can eat a lot more sewage before the downstream tap water processing facility is overloaded…

…but MOAR BABYZ is not the answer.

And it will be less of an answer as robots and AI take over more and more duties, from truck driver to radiologist.

Now, if only there was some way to get the non-critical thinkers, the political fetishists, and the lower intelligence crowd to self-select themselves out of the equation.

So the population is now at 51.44 million – which is at the 2016 level.
But remember, in 1970 – at the height of state-sponsored birth control due to fears that the country was severely overpopulated, it was at 33 million.

South Korean population has been dropping for three years in a row, with the number of single-person houses approaching 10 million, according to government figures released on Sunday.

The country’s registered population was nearly 51.44 million as of end-2022, a 0.39% decline from 2021, the Interior and Safety Ministry said.

Single-person households increased to 9.72 million, accounting for 41% of all households. In comparison, two-person households accounted for 65.2% of the total.

The average number of people per family has fallen to a new low of 2.17, according to the official data.

The male population decreased for the fourth consecutive year to 25.63 million, while the female population decreased for two years in a row to 25.80 million.

People in their 50s made up 16.7% of the population, while those aged 65 and above accounted for 18%.

South Korea is expected to become a super-aged society by 2025, with people aged 65 and above accounting for 20% of the total population, according to local Yonhap News Agency.

The country became an old society in 2017, with the proportion of such people exceeding 14%.

Maybe they just don’t know what goes where, and why.
