Death Toll from Korean Floods Rises to 40 People

The death toll from the deadly flooding in Korea continues to rise:

Four more bodies have been recovered from a flooded underground road in central South Korea, bringing the number of people dead or missing in recent downpours to 49, officials said Monday.

The Osong underground roadway in the central city of Cheongju was flooded Saturday when a nearby river overflowed after an embankment was brought down by rising water levels due to heavy rain.

Four more bodies were recovered overnight, including the driver of a submerged bus, bringing the death toll to 13. Five people were previously found dead in the bus.

Through a search operation, fire authorities found 16 vehicles waterlogged in the underpass, one more than what they had previously said.

Rescuers continued to search for one more person reported missing but were having difficulties due to water mixed with mud at waist height, clogging the central underpass area.

Yoon’s incompetent government strikes yet again, as Yoon admits his own government neglected the many warnings by the truck drivers who begged them to close off the tunnels.

Some drivers who use the road regularly blamed the government for failing to ban access to the underpass even though floods were widely forecast.

Koreans are paying for their lives by electing the same Conservative government with a long history of neglect, incompetence, and corruption. The governor of the province affected, who is also a Conservative party leader, vowed to prosecute those ‘responsible’. How about blaming himself? This was all predicted when Yoon’s party was elected, that even a child could have told you the kinds of man-made disasters Korea will be suffering.

Moon could have prevented this.

If he had ensured a sprinkler system was in Miryang hospital, not only would he have saved lives, there would have been less water in the tunnel… potentially saving even MORE lives.

But Moon was a killer. And fire was his preferred method… as demonstrated by double digit death toll events throughout his time in office which he did nothing to stop.

Collapse at construction sites seems to have brought him some occasional joy, as well.

Fortunately, we now have kinder and more conservative Yoon. Adding up the numbers, he is far more relaxed in his kill counts. One could even say the flooding of the tunnel may have killed a few people but overall, it will save lives by bringing awareness to the issue.

Hopefully this downward trend of presidential serial killing continues through election of more conservatives.

Korea needs to leave the dark history of leftist presidents and subway fires, collapsed bridges, collapsed department stores, and so many other disasters, far behind.

Also: The Moon Administration took ABSOLUTELY NO measures to regulate fan usage. This put a record number of Koreans at risk for Fan Death. But this is the typical lack of concern by leftist administrations, so it comes at no surprise.

The reason Yoon became President is because rich Gangnam real estate owners wanted their taxes cut and Yoon promised to deliver tax cuts for the rich.

It is worth noting that the Gangnam rich got what they wanted since the first thing Yoon did after becoming President is cut taxes for the rich while increasing taxes for the ordinary middle class Koreans.

Since the rest of the country is suffering while the Gangnam rich are celebrating maybe the next government that comes into power after Yoon gets impeached will raise more taxes for the rich and use that money to compensate the ordinary Koreans that suffered under the Yoon presidency.

Chickenhead brings up the Myrang Hospital fire in 2019. Nevermind the fact that the sprinkler law was instituted by the PGH government – the same Conservative party. OK but I digress. Let’s for the sake of argument that Moon’s party was responsible for that fire. I’ll give you that one for the sake of argument. Then what about all these disasters under the Conservatives that don’t even come close in terms of scale?

1994 -Seongsu bridge collapse.
1995 – Daegu subway gas explosion.
1995 – Sampoong department collapse
2014 – Sewol ferry disaster
2022 – Itaewon crush

These were all caused by the failure of basic governance or the failure of the government to do its basic duty. The numbers, the scales of the disasters are always extremely high under the Conservatives who tend to pick people in charge of important safety systems, through graft and connections, instead of their ability and experience/background of what they’re in charge of. The liberals while far from perfect, are far more conscious of picking people for their ability. That’s the crucial difference.

Under Yoon, we already have two massive death disasters in his brief two years of rule. And we still have three more years to go. How many more systematic failures will there be that will lead to more massive lives lost?

Everyone received about 10 million warning messages on their phones to avoid low ground, be careful of landslides, heavy rains, etc. They ignored those messages at their own peril. If they elected to drive into tunnels instead of taking alternate routes, that is on them. Bus company should have decided on their own to suspend operations. The government is not there to hold your hand, you make your own decisions.

Flyingsword spoke the truth before the chinabots were properly led down the wrong path, but that’s fine.

Everyone’s phone gave warnings multiple times per hour to be careful of this and that… including staying out of low-lying areas.

People who drove into the tunnels knew:
– it has been raining for days
– the rivers are all flooding
– tunnels are lower than rivers
– the government was concerned
– they were encouraged to be concerned

The bus driver was a creature of habit.

Everybody had a case of normalcy bias.

Those of weak mind and small ability who just can’t get enough government telling them what to do so they don’t have to make (usually poor) decisions for themselves, will complain that all-seeing government didn’t do enough.

Government can only respond, we told them several times an hour and they must have seen the days of rain. We can’t hold everybody’s hand all the time.

Again, Flyingsword attempts to spread lies and fake news.

Refer to the attached image.

The messages warning drivers to avoid the tunnel was sent at 11:14am, a full two and a half hours after the tunnel started flooding.

And it is a well known fact that in the case of the city bus, Chongju City Hall told the bus company to change its route to the flooded tunnel.

Cheongju City reportedly informed local bus companies on the 17th to use the Gungpyeong 2 Underpass in Osong-eup as an alternative route due to road closures caused by heavy rain on the morning of the 15th. The recommended time for utilizing the Gungpyeong 2 Underpass by Cheongju City was 8:49 a.m., which was nine minutes after the underpass had been submerged in water. Criticisms were raised regarding the insufficient response of the local government in both pre-accident prevention activities and post-management.

ha ha…Iie. If Korea man was actually Korean and not a CCP bot he would know this. All week I have been receiving messages from the National and provincial governments, the ROK Forest service, city government, and other agencies warning of heavy rains, dangers of high river water, land slides and other associated dangers of monsoon rains. If idiots can figure out they should not be in places that may flood, well then they have self selected their termination; again, the government doesn’t run my life nor do I want them to do so. I know this is a unusual concept for a CCP party member but that is how it is.

And more gaffes from the Yoon government

On the 16th, Minister Won Hee-ryong of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport, who visited the Cheongju Osong underground tunnel accident site, was embroiled in controversy for holding a press conference and blocking a road which emergency workers were using for rescue efforts.

The DAY BEFORE the tunnel flooded, the government expressed concern over 지하차 도…

…literally translated as “ground under car road”.

Since not all underground roads are created equal, the determination if this warning applies to you… is up to you.

Is your underground road up in the mountains or under the level of the river that is threatening to overflow its banks?

Now that all this is put to rest…

Instead of crazytalk like Yoon is personalky responsible for this, the real conversation should revolve around questions like:

– Since government is not big enough to hold everyone’s hand, how much should they rely on the judgement of those affected?

– Is government doing too much with an excess of warnings that don’t apply to the recipients, which leads to people thinking none of them apply?

– Many accidents (not just in Korea) become more serious becasue people lack the knowledge, experience, and planning to identify a threat, formulate a proper response, and act quickly. Is there some sort of cultural shift possible to increase personal readiness to unusual situations?

But remember, the chinabots are not interested in making Korea better. They don’t want these problems solved. They want to sabotage Korea in every way.

That could be by trying to bog down the government dealing with issues individuals should address. Or it could be sabotaging Yoon so he can be replaced by another anti-Korea saboteur administration.

And our little chinabots are always happy to encourage the death of more Koreans by focusing everyone away from solutions.

Flyingsword and CH, it does no good to respond to the chinabots with seriousness. They are very silly persons who smoke too much 麻 and don’t brush and floss very well. Their breath is as bad as Mao’s. Their heads are full of lies and Xi’s thoughts (but I repeat myself).

Proverbs 26, English Standard Version

Like snow in summer or rain in harvest,

so honor is not fitting for a fool.

Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying,

a curse that is causeless does not alight.

A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey,

and a rod for the back of fools.

Answer not a fool according to his folly,

lest you be like him yourself.

Answer a fool according to his folly,

lest he be wise in his own eyes.

Whoever sends a message by the hand of a fool

cuts off his own feet and drinks violence.

Like a lame man’s legs, which hang useless,

is a proverb in the mouth of fools.

Like one who binds the stone in the sling

is one who gives honor to a fool.

Like a thorn that goes up into the hand of a drunkard

is a proverb in the mouth of fools.

Like an archer who wounds everyone

is one who hires a passing fool or drunkard.

Like a dog that returns to his vomit

is a fool who repeats his folly.

Do you see a man who is wise in his own eyes?

There is more hope for a fool than for him.

The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road!

There is a lion in the streets!”

As a door turns on its hinges,

so does a sluggard on his bed.

The sluggard buries his hand in the dish;

it wears him out to bring it back to his mouth.

The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes

than seven men who can answer sensibly.

Whoever meddles in a quarrel not his own

is like one who takes a passing dog by the ears.

Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death

is the man who deceives his neighbor

and says, “I am only joking!”

For lack of wood the fire goes out,

and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases.

As charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire,

so is a quarrelsome man for kindling strife.

The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels;

they go down into the inner parts of the body.

Like the glaze covering an earthen vessel

are fervent lips with an evil heart.

Whoever hates disguises himself with his lips

   and harbors deceit in his heart;

when he speaks graciously, believe him not,

   for there are seven abominations in his heart;

though his hatred be covered with deception,

his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

Whoever digs a pit will fall into it,

and a stone will come back on him who starts it rolling.

A lying tongue hates its victims,

and a flattering mouth works ruin.

It seems the main argument of the right leaning members of the ROK Drop is;

The people were warned they should have avoided that tunnel. It’s their fault. Don’t blame the government.

If timely warning was issued to avoid that tunnel, yes the above argument would be relevant.

But from the looks of it warning to avoid that tunnel was not issued in a timely manner, since the warning to avoid that tunnel was issued at 11:42, a full three hours after the tunnel flooded.

On this day at around 11:42 AM, Cheongju City issued an urgent notification via text message stating, “Due to the overflow of the Mihogang River, vehicle traffic is impossible on the section from Osong-eup to Cheongju City. Please take a detour.”

Source: JB News – Representative news platform for the Chungcheong region (http://www.jbnews.com)

So, since the city government didn’t give people warning to avoid the tunnel on that fateful day, I’m afraid this tragedy is on the city government.

As for the warnings that have been put up by ChickenHead and Flyingsword, the one put up by ChickenHead says to “drive slowly and safely” and the ones by Flyingsword doesn’t pertain to the area that the tunnel is located.

Not exactly relevant to the recent tragedy.

ChickenHead
ChickenHead

TOK, the situation is slightly misrepresented.

“Three hours late” is what everyone focuses on, as if only they had been on time, this would never have happened.

The “three hours late” message was actually about current traffic conditions.

We can still have a conversation about the duties and responsibilities and procedures of local government.

Perhaps I miss the nuance of the message I posted from the national government, but it clearly says drive slowly and carefully concerning underground roads.

It seems to mean “use your judgement in speed (some pooling water is possible in many tunnels) and care (tunnels under the level of nearby flooding rivers should get your attention).

Nobody (with any sense) has an expectation for the national government to be able to close down all underground roads when there is rain. Nor should anyone (with any sense) expect them to.

(Blaming Yoon is how all this started.)

So the responsibility lies on local government which should be engaged when there are unusual situations… and people who should be engaged when there are unusual situations.

The “right-leaning” members of ROK drop generally believe in a higher degree of personal awareness, engagement, and responsibility than the lefties who wish for more government to guide and care for them.

Government has its place and can do a great deal of good, but those who surrender their critical thinking skills to government out of blind trust or laziness are fools.

I can prove that statement over and over with a stack of history books.

So, in this case, a good argument could be made that local government which knows the area well, should have noticed the river flooding, recognized there were some weak points and low areas, stationed lookouts in key locations, and monitored the situation.

And smart people, who know not to fully rely on government, should have made some of their own determinations.

“Should I enter this line of slow-moving traffic in 600 meters of enclosed space which is all under the waterline of the nearby river that is the highest it is ever been? Naw. I’m gonna take the long way home this time.”

I have done a risk assessment and modified my behavior so many times in my life, I cannot count.

And it had paid off enough that I am willing to take the long way home when my instinct tells me to.

With that in mind, you can see how I might be critical of people who do foolish things and get in trouble. I am even more critical when they think government will (or should or can) save them from (clearly) poor decisions.

Flyingsword
Flyingsword

My point is numerous warnings were put out but various agencies around the country. Of course I don’t live in the area of the tunnel so I won’t have the specific warnings. But there were enough warnings across the country that people should have been aware.

“Why are they called “chinabots”?”

1. All of the polices, behaviors, attitudes, etc., they promote are some combination of:

– damaging to Korea
– damaging to America
– drives a wedge in the USFK alliance
– benefits China

2. They occasionally demonstrate concepts about Korea in a way that no Korean would ever do.

3. There are more more clues… but those will remain a secret.

And since they are promoting nonsense, they have nothing to say.

They speak in generalities, they make non-specific accusation, they never address any point, and they fall back on tired cries of racism when nothing else works.

This is the behavior of chinabots.

Or they could be six years old.

damaging to Korea

damaging to America

drives a wedge in the USFK alliance

benefits China

The two Koreans in question have expressed opposition to the current President and his supposedly corrupt wife, whom I believe most Koreans dislike.

One of them has gone on about America stabbing Korea in the back, by discouraging business with China while America does brisk business with China.

The two doesn’t fit the description of “damaging to Korea”, “damaging to America”, “driving a wedge in the alliance, and “benefiting China”.

Especially on the subject of benefiting China, China doesn’t benefit from trade with Korea. Korea is not our largest market, and they don’t have anything technically that benefits us Any cut in economic relations with Korea, hurts Korea more, since they are very dependent on us for markets for their goods and raw materials for their economy.

So, I find it difficult to accept that they are “chinabots” as you claim.

It can be said that your comments fit the above four criteria since you support a corrupt incompetent regime in Korea, are disrepectful of the victims of major tragedies in Korea, attack the US government, and make pro-Russian comments, which in the end benefits China.

They occasionally demonstrate concepts about Korea in a way that no Korean would ever do.

Now what are you trying to say with that above sentence?

From my view point, it seems that you have a stereotypical view of Koreans in that Koreans are docile right wing robots that won’t oppose you.

Koreans are human beings.

As such each one will have their unique thougts, beliefs, and opinions.

To paint them with a wide brush, is racist to say the least.

And since they are promoting nonsense, they have nothing to say.

They speak in generalities, they make non-specific accusation, they never address any point, and they fall back on tired cries of racism when nothing else works

You just described yourself.

ChickenHead

Mǐn Xiù Xī, your comments are thoughtful and logical. That is refreshing.

Here are some quick replies.

– “Yoon is personally responsible for Itaewon and tunnel flooding,” is not serious criticism of Korean governance. It is general sabotage of the government… but not in a constructive way. Korea is a high-trust society and most Koreans have a decent relationship with government. When Koreans are critical of Korea, it is sensible criticism. Or maybe I just hang out with smarter Koreans.

– What trade with China has America discouraged Korea from doing, and what trade with China does America do a brisk business in?

Hint: high tech semiconductors vs agracultural products.

Be careful: Despite your more thoughful writing, saying that China gets no benefit out of trade with Korea could get you suspected as the supervisor of the other chinabots, coming in to clean up their mess.

– The two chinabots have made statements that no Korean would ever make about Korea… not quite on the level of kimchee sucks, Dokdo belongs to Japan, and comfort women were all hos… but the next level or so down… things that even non-Koreans with experience would treat carefully around. I pointed a few out when they happened. I will do it again.

– “To paint them with a wide brush, is racist to say the least.” No, it is nationalist. The entire conversation revolves around Korea, and there has been no mention of race. You take all the seriousness out of your arguments when you try to intoduce fake racism as supporting evidence for whatever you are trying to push.

Yapping about racism will do you no good.

Mǐn Xiù Xī,

Until the Moon administration, politicians fought over how to improve Korea… primarily by how to distribute the money.

There was plenty of corruption and back room dealing… but the general goal was to improve Korea.

As a very nationalist country, proud of past earned success, with a culture that shares the same general values, this is quite understandable.

The Moon administration was the first to intentionally sabotage Korea. Many of the projects were discrete and unnoticed by Koreans.

But one that is quite clear, if you understand what happened, was the intentional destruction of small business. This is a globalist/corporatist goal. It reduces the middle class and increases reliance on big corporations and government. This is a very sensible goal.

The Moon administration openly picked winners and loser. Small business had to close at 9pm to protect their handfull of customers. Emart was packed until 11pm. Daytime big business had few restrictions.

A large part of Korea’s economy revolved around nighttime small business. But it is mostly an economy big business can’t break into.

However, the few that do, such as fast food, had a delivery infrastructure quickly set up and they lobbied (successfully) to keep restrictions in place.

This is just one example that is clear because it affected so many people.

“Really? Or does that apply to right wing governments only. If a left-wing government was in power you will say something different.”

Korea is a high-trust society for citizens, business, and government. This is not an issue of a right or left-leaning government.

The issue is where the national resources will go in Korea rather than will either side sabotage Korea in general.

Even when the right and left give sticks and carrots to North Korea, neither side does it with the intention to damage South Korea.

(Protip: neither carrots nor sticks will work)

“And if the above is the case why do you attack Biden?”

Unlike right and left Korean administrations, the Biden administration (Biden and his handlers) are openly and intentionally trying to damage America. List available upon request.

“Or are you taking the racial stereotypical path?”

Korean is not a race.

Bonus: I thought you were perhaps a Chinese observer truly interested in my thoughts. It turns out you are just another chinabot sock. That’s too bad.

But it doesn’t matter what name you write under. All you do is destroy any goal you have with silly talk while coaxing from me sensible ideas that might resonate with those who have not been exposed to them.

I wish someone smart would tear into my thinking to see if I need to modify any of my ideas… but… well… maybe I am not wrong.

So instead of being a flower attracting bees, I am just a shining light attracting moths.

Mǐn Xiù Xī

ChickenHead.

I’m not interested in modifying your ideas since you have no intention of changing them.

You are are only interested in a right wing government ruling over Korea regardless of whether they are corrupt or incompetent.

For what reasons, you have not made clear.

But as a right winger obviously you hate the left and it’s better a corrupt and incompetent right wing government rather than a competent left wing government who show willingness to improve the livelihood of the common Korean.

You also delude yourself into thinking that Koreans are docile right wing robots when there is a complexity of individuality shaping this society.

Something you do not want to realize and understand.

As a matter of fact your mind may be unable to process that complexity, and I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t want to process that complexity either.

So what better way than to explain away all that complexity by using the word that will in your eyes make your rivals more ugly, discredit and undercut them.

The Chinese in me does not like the word “chinabot” being used lightly withour any thought to explain away the complexity you cannot handle.

The Chinese in me also does not like that an obviously less than intelligent American right winger is abusing that word and denigrating the Chinese people at the same time.

I think you need to get a taste of what a real “Chinabot” can do to your sanity.

ChickenHead
ChickenHead

You have attacked me with vague accusations but you have not countered my claims about the Moon administration.

And you somehow fail to recognize that on some issues, ALL Koreans think alike… with the rare exceptions having mental issues. Dokdo and comfort women are two of these issues. There are many minor ones.

This unity of national thinking is a strength on most issues and it would damage Korea to let the anti-Korean globalists introduce division, as has been done in America on so many issues.

But you cleverly want to do that.

Soooo…

Looks like we have 3 chinabots…

…two drones and a supervisor.

Bonus Homework: Find any past criticism of leftist Korean administrations which I have made.

Double Bonus: Find any criticism of the Moon administration over leftist issues. I believe you will find all my criticisms have nothing to do with left and right. They are nationalist and globalist.

Difficulty Level: I don’t find the Korean left to be particularly distasteful like the American left. Korea’s exploration of socialism is mostly beneficial. The medical system would be an example. The Korean leftists that I criticize are the ones who promote North Korea.

Any South Korean who promotes North Korea is a predator, a tool, or a complete idiot.

Nonetheless, my criticism of the Moon administration is based on his globalist agenda that damaged Korea.

But, as a chinabot, you like to see damage to Korea.

On top of that they try to hide their racism and make excuses for it, which also shows that they are liars and cowards.

All nose-picking ccp chinabots are Chinese; but not all Chinese are nose-picking ccp chinabots. 🙂

And it doesn’t matter what Xi’s tho’ts on the matter say about that.

Fake accusations of racism prove CH correct. I wish you sockpuppets would at least learn to give a courtesy flush and wash your socks.

It’s so sad to watch TOK, KM, KP, Paintchip (is it 5th or 6th one?), and now Min. So much promise and they can’t deliver any memes, sarcasm, satire, parody, or even clever limericks.

It’s as boring as watching 1950s government training films. And just as pointless.
