The U.S. and Japan to Announce Collaboration on New Missile Defense System that Intercepts Hypersonics

The fact that the U.S. and Japan plan to build this within 10 years may be to late to need:

The U.S. and Japan are expected to announce an agreement to jointly develop missile interceptors for hypersonic weapons when the leaders of the two nations meet later this week, the Yomiuri reported, citing several people in government.

U.S. President Joe Biden will host Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol for a summit on Aug. 18. Biden will also meet with Kishida separately and one of the issues on which they are expected to reach agreement is the collaboration on missile interceptors, the Yomiuri said.

Good luck to both. How did the US-Japan development of F-16…er… I mean F2 fighter jets for the Japan airforce go?

They may be saying 10 years out to keep the Rooskies and nose-picking CCP generals from panicking.

Hypersonic is still slower than lasers. And there probably are multiple currently-effective anti-missile choices; but often times the enemy goes fishing to see what gullible Americans will say.

So 10 years it is. Just keep your eyes open…

Interesting, setnaffa came out guns blazing against Korea developing LSAM instead of buying THAAD.

A missile system which development is almost complete and twill go into production in 2025.

But he has no qualms about Japan taking ten years to develop an anti-hypersonic missile with the US when in fact Japan can buy the SM-6.

Another evidence of setnaffa’s hypocrisy.

The difference, Korean Person, is that S.Korea is almost done with completing SK’s own version of THAAD without pumping billions into the American economy through defense purchases. Japan isn’t fortunate, since they will have to buy their technology and parts from the US, plus relying on very spotty but very expensive aftersale services from American defense companies. The US wants and will get Japan’s $$’s.
