China’s Xi Says He is Considering a Visit to South Korea

It will be interesting to see if Chinese President Emperor Xi Jin-ping actually visits Seoul or not because I am not sure what he and President Yoon would talk about. If Xi comes that means some kind of concession would need to be made by South Korea. What concession could Yoon give Xi for a visit?:

The office of President Yoon Suk Yeol will set out to arrange a visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to South Korea, a senior government official said Sunday.

“As President Xi brought up a visit first to Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, we will start discussing the matter with China in earnest through diplomatic channels,” the official told Yonhap News Agency on condition of anonymity.

Chinese President Xi said Saturday he will seriously consider a visit to Seoul during his meeting with Prime Minister Han on the sidelines of the Asian Games, which is currently taking place in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou.

Yoon should tell Xi to stop threatening Taiwan, stop supporting Russia against Ukraine, and stop destroying the oceans with plastic waste and toxic chemicals.

But, of course, no one can talk like that to a madman who looks like an English children’s cartoon.

Yoon should tell Xi:

– The west is offering some pretty sweet deals. What do you have for us? Nothing? I see. It sure is looking harder to turn down a second and maybe even a third THAAD. Are you still talking without considering we only respond to carrots, not sticks.

– So you want to supply weapons to Russia? No, no, no, I’m not complaining. We will primarily supply Ukraine. I just want to point out that if we coordinate on our supplies we can maintain the balance of power and perhaps keep “supplying” for years and years.

– I know you are more of a dictatorship and don’t have some of the same concerns, but we get so much mileage out of Dokdo, consider if you really want to kill that Taiwanese political goose that always has another golden egg.

– Have you tried Korean honey? No? I thought you would be an expert on honey… since… you know… you look like… Pooh. I kid, I kid!

Okay, CH, I admit you are wittier than me. You’re a poet laureate compared to my lame Boomer witticisms.

“Yoon should tell Xi”. bla bla bla

But what ROKDrop ignores is the fact that it was Yoon who sent his Prime Minister to China to beg Xi to come to South Korea. Only Yoon can tell us what exactly the purpose of this hand-in-hat desperate communication with a despotic regime is and why Yoon is so desperate to have Xi over to South Korea.

I don’t know what Yoon will tell Xi.

I am only saying what Yoon SHOULD tell Xi, cloaked in as much diplomacy as necessary.

If you are pro-Korean, you will agree with thesr concepts.

If you are anti-Korean, you will… well… do exactly as you have done.

Wonder why the about face from an administration that was tilting heavily toward anti-China?

I think the answer is here;

In the end, Washington should not expect much from Yoon as far as countering China, though. In fact, quite the opposite: Yoon wants South Korea to become a global pivotal state that plays a valuable role in the international community.

Turning this into reality will inevitably mean striking a balance between the U.S. and China. Of course, true balance is unattainable given Seoul’s security alliance with Washington. However, by also keeping relations stable with China, South Korea’s top economic partner, Yoon may still put Seoul in the position of benefiting from the best of both worlds.

U.S. cannot count on South Korea’s Yoon to line up against China – Nikkei Asia

The big corporations are supporters of the PPP and Yoon.

It seems that someone told the PPP and/or someone from Yoon’s inner circle that angering China isn’t good for the corporations’ bottom line, thus the efforts to mend fences.

There’s also the parliamentary elections coming up and for the PPP it won’t help, if the narrative of the PPP letting the economy worsen because of a spat with China takes hold.
