The Number of Young People in South Korea to Be Reduced By 50% in the Next 30 Years
From a national security perspective this is not good news because it means a smaller population of young men to conscript to defend the country. Hopefully North Korea, China, and Russia are not even greater threats than they are now in the next 30 years towards the ROK:
The number of young South Koreans is forecast to halve in 30 years amid a rapid aging trend and a record low birthrate, the statistics agency said Monday.
The number of people aged 19-34 came to 10.21 million in 2020, and the figure is forecast to tumble to 5.21 million in 2050, according to the analysis by Statistics Korea.
The proportion of the young population out of the country’s total came to 20.4 percent in 2020, but it is expected to fall to 11 percent in 2050, it added.
The number of young people has been on a steady decline over the past decades from 13.85 million in 1990, accounting for 31.9 percent of the total, to 12.88 million in 2000, 10.97 million in 2010 and 10.21 million in 2020.

Not a single problem Korea has will be solved by more babies… certainly in the long-term.
Korea needs about half its current population… but it needs a high quality population.
There is an increasing lack of purpose for low-quality people in a world of increasing high-quality automation.
War? Soldiers? Yeah… let’s look at Ukraine where consumer-grade drones are dropping grenades on soldiers whose only real defense is not to be noticed.
It is not a big jump to run image recognition on a cellphone-grade computer and release the loitering swarm to hunt soldiers breaking cover when they need to take a poo.
Now put a couple billion tax dollars into that.

If setnaffa were a leftist and had brains, he would have realized that the low birth rate is the result of issues such as high cost of raising a child, lack of adequate childcare for working parents, and discrimination against parents who take time off from work for childcare, etc.
The current government is clueless and has no idea how to solve the issues.
Considering setnaffa’s remarks, I have no doubt that Yoon is thinking the same thing, which means the problem will get worse until Yoon steps down.
Their idea of solving this crisis is to raise the working hours to 80 hours per week and make people forget about spending time with family. That’s the type of clueless out-of-touch old idiots that they are.

Be that as it may, CH, I think a more traditional family structure is better for South Korea’s economy than relying on 3rd-world immigrants who need to be trained to use a loo.
Of course, the “depopulation explosion” is happening everywhere. If there are actually more than 5 or 6 Billion actual live humans at present, I would be surprised.

Those are features, not bugs.
As income is the best indicator we have for value, it theoretically encourages high-value people to reproduce more.
There are all sorts of unintended concequences in this idea but it is a FAR better policy than paying the most worthless people in society to have more babies, as America does.

Unfortunately, that is all being destroyed so systematically, that it is not a problem i can solve. It is only a situation I can manage my place within.
Bonus: Only about 10% of America is now middle class, as measured by home equity, saving level, etc. The main reason for this is debt on depreciating “assets”.
