This open thread has been quiet this weekend, so here is something for people to debate. Does anyone support the UN’s “Pandemic Treaty” that will allow the WHO to implement lockdowns in the future?

GI, I hope that falls in the same category of foreign commanders over US troops. After all what could possibly go wrong a UN backed agency dictating to various countries what their status is regarding pandemic lockdowns? Typical of most UN “good ideas” there will be enough graft, corruption & loopholes that any country with the right hookers, blow & cash can get an exemption.

I support it.
Lockdowns worked so well the first time, we clearly need to rely on this first line of defense whenever possible.
Hopefully it includes provisions for more medical expermentation on people too stupid to do personal risk assessments and evaluate cost/benefit ratios.
In other, unrelated news, it apprears white helmets don’t actually protect against crowbar attacks or flammable liquids.

Got 5 laptops to refurbish (backup, remove OS, restore apps and necessary files, and bring back online.
So, it appears that setnaffa has essentially confessed to operating his troll factory.
Let’s see. One laptop for him, another for the Chicken Head sockpuppet, one for Liz or liz sockpuppet, another for the Scotsman sockpuppet, and one each for GrayBlack and Drago.
Seems like a fitting distribution.
Certainly, setnaffa has borrowed tactics from the playbook of Russian and Chinese influence operations.

Setnaffa, are you paying shipping for my new refurbished laptop?
Make sure at least 2TB SSD and as much memory as it will eat.
What are the GPU options? Minimum x060. Don’t try to sneak in a non-CUDA 1050.
Don’t forget a new battery.
And remove all those Intel Inside and other crap stickers. I’m not a free advertizement space.

How Do Koreans See the US in 2024? | Street Interview
The guy in the white coat around 5:00. The US is economically the most powerful due to the US dollar being the world currency. However, the US no longer wants to buy products from other countries and wants to make everything inside the US right down to neckties and sneakers. The US also wants to disengage from the world, so don’t bet on the US military to keep on keeping the world order. With the US turning into just another normal country, which is not much different from, say a country like Brazil, there will be no more reason for the world to continue to buy and use the US dollar. Which will mean the US will not be able to keep on printing unlimited amount of money to spend on.

Korea Man, I put a lot of thought into this.
America does nothing but stupid things… yet… somehow… it frequently works out.
It is unclear if this is because it is 4D chess or if the rest of the world is even more stupid.
As you pointed out, America is reshoring industry.
Destroying Europe’s cheap energy¹ and cutting off their Asian supply lines through the Suez is pretty brilliant, as it speeds this process up.
Inviting China to remove Taiwan from the semiconductor industry will be the next brilliant move.
Watch your back, Korea.
Once America can produce anything and again becomes the manufactured goods supply chain to the world, everyone will have to… grudgingly… pay… in… dollars.
Dear Americans: Remeber, this is not for you. You don’t get a piece of this except higher prices due to an influx of money that you can’t have any of. This whole plan only works if American industry can use robots which work cheaper than a Chinese 12 year-old and do both 12 hour shifts plus their monthly day off.
¹The prime minister of Britain proudly declared independence from Russian energy and signed a deal with a French gas company… which… gets… its… gas… from…
…wait for it…
I dont even have to say. You already know.
The leadership of Europe is too dumb to live and the diversity hire leadership is even dumber.

Well, I hate to disappoint you all; but the newest laptops were built in 2016 and are being prepped to give to students or seniors.
It’s that time of year again. Got 5 laptops to refurbish (backup, remove OS, restore apps and necessary files, and bring back online.
Hope the rest of you enjoy your weekends too!!
