10 New Hiking Trails to Open Along the Korean DMZ

Some more interesting trails near the Korean DMZ are set to open this month:

Ten peace-themed trails near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), separating the two Koreas, will open to the public in mid-May, the government said Tuesday.

The trails are located across border towns and cities in the provinces of Gyeonggi and Gangwon, as well as the western border island of Gangwha, according to the defense and culture ministries.

The trails are set to open May 13. Visitors can sign up for trips on the government-run website (www.dmzwalk.com) and mobile app Durunubi, according to the ministries.

The DMZ, which is about 250 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide, is one of the world’s most heavily fortified borders, with the rival Koreas technically in a state of conflict, as the 1950-53 Korean War ended in a truce, not a peace treaty.

WTF! This is one of the dumbest things that S. Korea is doing, They want to be protected and then they want to go to the most dangerous parts of the country. The dumbasses have become too complacent with the north. Why isn’t Korea Man speaking up? Oh, he’s too busy whining about the US and how much it costs to have troops there. News flash Korea Man, Most US troops don’t want to be there! In the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s Korea was considered a shit tour. I’ve had some Vietnam Vets tell me that they thought we were worse off than they were!

I’ll speak out. It’s great to jog and hike along the barbed wires. Right? Just look at that view!

rocketman, I say tear down that barbed wire. Problem solved. A united Korea is all that’s needed. There’s no harm in having the US troops in Korea, but if all they’re going to do is whine and moan and threaten to leave unless they get paid 5 times the cost that they’re getting paid every year, then they’re more of a nuisance than help. Korea doesn’t need expensive mercenaries and shouldn’t beg them to do their jobs. The US military can easily be replaceable with nukes.
