Is YouTube to Blame for Martial Law Attempt in South Korea?
|That is what the Joong Ang Ilbo is speculating on:
One month ago, far-right political YouTuber and popular pundit Ko Sung-kook uploaded videos that mirrored the president’s televised public address, including the tone and rhetoric.
“No one trusts the polls and the NEC [National Election Commission] anymore. They carry the votes around in a basket and are a severe threat to democracy. They should not be trusted,” Ko is filmed telling his 1.1 million subscribers.
Ko is just one in an ecosystem of far-right political YouTubers who support their beliefs by stretching the truth and spreading unfounded ideas that extend to conspiracy theories. (Joong Ang Ilbo)
You can read more at the link, but basically the Korean public has lost faith in legacy media and has turned to YouTube personalities for what they believe is less bias news. Yoon is supposedly a big consumer of these conservative YouTube personalities and was sold on election fraud by listening to them.
And since the government is not being transparent, Koreans can’t really know…
That stirs the pot more than is necessary.
Far Right just means correct
The NK News which usually brings stories about North Korea and the North Korean defectors, has a story of how Yoon got obsessed with rightwing Youtube crazies, and he himself turned into a Rightwing Youtube zombie:
How South Korea’s far-right YouTubers influenced Yoon’s martial law decree
https://www.nknews.org/2024/12/how-south-koreas-far-right-youtubers-influenced-yoons-martial-law-decree/
And this is the killer quote:
Just like the ROKDrop site, which mocked the opposition fears of a Martial Law, as a fear mongering by the Korean left, as GI Korea claimed, before he deleted the entire posting (it was posted before the Martial Law went into effect, then he deleted it right after I pointed out that they really did declare the Martial Law). Now ROK Drop and his readers are supporting Yoon’s moves, as something that was necessary.
Yah, right, make South Korea, just like China, which has a dictator for life (something Yoon was shooting for on Dec 3).
You guys are really pathetic.
@KM, at this point I guess you are just lying to troll. I didn’t delete any post. Before martial law was declared I said it would be a stupid thing for Yoon to do considering the National Assembly controlled by the DPK can just vote to overturn it which is what happened. Instead of right wing Youtube channels maybe Yoon should be reading ROK Drop for advice instead because he would still be President then.
GI Korea, don’t lie. KP already posted the cached version or the printscreen of your post that you deleted. Chickenhead also comically brought it up accidentaly by commenting on your deleted post. Prior to the military coup, you dismissed the DPK concerns of a possible military coup attempt by Yoon (as he had said he would do numerously for months), as an attempt by the “Korean left” to instigate a conflict.
I would have more respect for you, if you at least admit your mistake, instead of lying.
And talk of trolling, who is trolling the most? You just posted a nose picking picture of someone you hate so much, to rile up your support base. Stop being so immature and grow up!
