Korea’s Democratic Party Threatens to Impeach the Third President this Month If They Don’t Get Their Way
|If the Democratic Party does yet another impeachment this would actually support Yoon’s rationale of why he tried to declare martial law. The Democratic Party is dangerously paralyzing the government for partisan political reasons:
Despite the growing risk that the country could be left without a government to mount effective responses to serious crises, hard-liners in the liberal Democratic Party (DP) have suggested impeaching more ministers to neutralize the Cabinet’s ability to stonewall legislation should Choi not cooperate with the DP-controlled National Assembly.
At least 11 members of the 21-member Cabinet must be present for the council to hold meetings, where it considers bills and issues directives. Six Cabinet-level positions are currently empty due to impeachments or resignations.
One of the DP’s reasons for impeaching Han was his refusal to immediately appoint the legislature’s three nominees for the Constitutional Court, which will decide the outcome of Yoon’s impeachment trial.
For Yoon’s impeachment to be upheld, at least six justices must agree on his removal from office.
The court must therefore be unanimous with its current six-member composition to finalize his dismissal.
In recent comments, DP Rep. Jang Kyung-tae said his party “should impeach several Cabinet members,” including Choi, if he also delays appointing more justices to the court.
You can read more at the link.
GI Korea just edited out his comment at the bottom, saying that perhaps “that’s probably why Yoon tried to do what he tried” – trying to justify the military coup attempt.
Why did you edit that part out, GI Korea? At least Chickenhead and Setnaffa and others here are honest rightwing fascists. You on the other hand is doing a poor job trying to appear like you’re not biased. lol.
By their childish behavior in removing senior political and military leaders and creating chaos, the Democratic Party may tempt North Korea into a violent act against the South.
If that happens, the leaders of the Democrat Party should be arrested and tried as enemy agents.
If not, I’ll need to have the wife pick up more popcorn.
The crisis began almost a month ago. Yet:
1) The President is still not arrested.
2) The President refused three times to submit to questionings by investigative authorities, refusing to accept the documents sent by the police.
3) Still no Constitutional Judges appointed.
4) Still no impeachment ruling by the court.
Why? Because all blocked, delayed by Yoon’s PPP party and his henchmen. who are protecting him and muddying the fact that it was Yoon who started the military coup, not the DPK (painted as the evil one) who have no enforcing power.
Unfortunately many of the gate keepers who are supposed to enforce the law, like the just impeached PM/acting President, are also the ones who were part of Yoon’s rebellion. The acting President refusing to appoint judges to the Constitution court to deliberate on Yoon’s impeachment, is illegal and unconstitutional. In most cases, the rebellions are done by another opposing entity, not the government in power. So this situation is highly unusual.
Of course the DPK party, since they don’t have any power to enforce anything, all they can do is serve as a watch tower, and keep the pressure on the government (with help from the 85% of Korean public) so that the tainted government do its job and enforce the law. Enough is enough of the foot dragging, and the unenthused half-hearted investigations full of excuses as to why they can’t bring justice.
The only way that South Korea can go forward is to impeach Yoon, put him and his co-conspiracy group in jail, then hold a new election within 60 days, form a new stable government, and start fresh. They can’t leave Yoon’s forces intact, and expect things to go back to normal as if nothing happened.
What Yoon forces are trying to do is they want to nullify the impeachment. They want to put Yoon back in power. But no way that most Koreans would go back to 1980 Korea with all civil liberties suspended/canceled, political opponents in jails, unjust arrests of anyone that is not pro-Yoon, censorship of all media, tortures of dissidents, and violent protests on the streets. If that ever happened, you can kiss good bye, Korea’s soft power, Kpop/Kdrama, tourism, and foreign investments,
No skin off my nose; but Beijing wants a weak South Korea.
The DPK seems to be trying to do what Beijing wants.
And our local chinabots use the same tired arguments.
Yoon can’t hurt anyone now.
But leftists always overreact. And they’ll make sure the next President will be ultra right-wing.
South Korean commies won’t be happy until Xi is president of South Korea.
Korea Man when Yoon obstructs: “He is obstructing! Waaaaaah!”
Korea Man when the left obstructs: “Yo, don’t hate the playa, hate the game.”
@KM, I don’t even know what you are talking about? I did not edit anything out. Everyone can clearly read on the top of the posting that I believe the endless impeachments by the KDP is what drove Yoon to declare martial law. Yoon was stupid to go that route, but it is clear the KDP’s endless obstruction is why he tried to do it.
