Japanese Newspaper Reports on President Yoon’s Alleged Habit of Heavy Drinking
|Here is some more unflattering news about President Yoon:

Japan’s Asahi Shimbun reported that President Yoon Suk Yeol frequently mentioned martial law starting around April last year, coinciding with Korea’s general elections.
Citing a former cabinet minister under the Yoon administration who dined with the president several times, Asahi reported, “Yoon began bringing up the term ‘martial law’ more frequently in gatherings after the ruling party’s crushing defeat in the April elections last year. His stress levels and alcohol consumption increased as well.”
According to the report, Yoon often drank at venues such as a government residence in Samcheong-dong, Seoul. These gatherings typically included samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly), paired with rounds of “somaek” — a shot of soju mixed with beer. Apparently, Yoon drank up to 20 glasses of somaek in a single sitting.
The former minister said, “Most people fill their somaek glasses halfway, but the president filled his to the brim. While drinking, the president would criticize opposition politicians, though he sometimes directed criticism at ruling party members as well.”
The report speculated that this habit may stem from Yoon’s days as a prosecutor when he drank a mix of whiskey and beer called “Ten-Ten.” This potent drink, designed for quick intoxication, was said to be popular among prosecutors.
A former foreign affairs aide from Yoon’s administration revealed that these drinking sessions frequently lasted until dawn.
“Even the security personnel stationed at the president’s facilities expressed frustration over the long hours they had to endure during these late-night gatherings,” the aide said.
You can read more at the link.
It’s pretty obvious the dude is a severe alcoholic who did not do his job. His aids testified that he was so drunk to stooper most of the nights, that he never left for work, and rarely showed up or always late for state functions. It explains why Yoon has been described as the worst President ever, an authoritarian who failed to communicate with the press, and the people. You can hear his extreme raspy voice – signs of alcoholism damaging his vocal cords. Personally, I’ve known people who cannot control their drinking with that exact same problem.
Dereliction of duty and incompetence are just as bad as being a lunatic. How bad can it be, that even his best friends in Japan who are pulling for him to survive this and become a South Korean President for life, just wrote an unflattering article. What does that tell you? Maybe Voice of America should take some lessons on fair journalism from the Japanese media.
Spurious and unsubstituted nonsense claims. No names, someone said something…just the usual lying press.
Wouldn’t that amount of alcohol kill a normal man? I have a hard time taking this claim seriously.
Leftists always lie. Can’t help it. It’s a disease.
Pity them and get them into mental hospitals. Don’t vote them into office.
I was in the room about 2 decades ago when Yoon challenged a Korean Olympic Committee member to a poktanju contest, whiskey shots dropped rather than soju.
KOC members are essentially professional boozehounds.
After 10 poktanju the KOC guy was carried out.
Yoon continued drinking.
Leftists always lie. Can’t help it. It’s a disease.
So now the racist @setnaffa is calling the Japanese “leftist liars.”
His anti-Asian racism knows no limits.
Do these people have no idea how crazy the claim of 20 drinks of somaek in a single sitting is? I used a model to find estimated BAC. A 180 lbs man who starts drinking at 1700, consuming a standard drink every 30 minutes for the next 9.5 hours for a total of 20 drinks, would have a BAC of .336 at 0230 the next day. That’s alcohol poisoning levels and possible death… and that’s not even accounting for somaek being a lot more than a single standard drink. It would easily put him way above the range of .35 to 0.4 BAC which is crazy because that’s above the LD50 (50% chance of death) for most people. Either those were some very small cups or the number of drinks is an outright lie.
@GrayBlack, it’s clear that leftists don’t do even basic math.
I used a model to find estimated BAC. A 180 lbs man who starts drinking at 1700, consuming a standard drink every 30 minutes for the next 9.5 hours for a total of 20 drinks, would have a BAC of .336 at 0230 the next day.
As usual, Gray Black manipulates the model to gain a result that is favorable to him so that he can spread misinformation.
A couple of facts that Gray Black ignored.
As such the BAC should come to 0.26, not the 0.336 as claimed by Gray Black.
This means Yoon was drunk to the point that he couldn’t go to work, and may have had brain damage, which explains why he ordered an insurrection, but it wouldn’t have killed him.
It also explains why he was late for work and why they had to run emply motorcades as a show, so that people would think that Yoon was coming to work on time, among other things.
So, the main takeaways are as follows;
He wasn’t late for work KP. He just never went to work. He never met with the National Assembly members, and he never gave interviews to the press.
So, Korean Man, we the Korean taxpayers paid the wages of a drunk who never came to work during the past two and a half years or so.
“As such the BAC should come to 0.26, not the 0.336 as claimed by Gray Black.”
“ABV of somaek are about the same as a glass of martini”
I did a rough estimate using standard drinks, each 30 minutes after the last. As I pointed out, somaek is quite a bit stronger than a single standard drink and would put him way above the LD50 range.
You claim somaek is about the same ABV as a glass of martini… a martini is at least 20% on the low end…
From the article:
“Most people fill their somaek glasses halfway, but the president filled his to the brim. ”
The smallest glass for somaek I saw in a Korean resturant is 150ml. Redoing the BAC calculation puts a 198 lbs man at 0.516 after 14 hours of drinking. I call bullshit. If the ABV was your typical martini which is closer to 30%, well it doesn’t matter because he would be dead either way. How you arrived at a mere .26 BAC estimate is both crazy and tells me you’ve never drank somaek.
So either they are lying about number of drinks, or those were some unusually very small glasses and they are purposely not reporting that in order to make the story more dramatic.
One of the side effects of Trump being felonized by the State of New York, is that Trump is barred from holding a liquor license in many jurisdictions.
If Yoon hits the booze again we won’t be able to blame it on the Trumpanova.
Not that Trump drinks anyway, and the apèritif of choice of the Muskenator is ketamine.
Test
I posted something with one link.
Wonder why it went to “Waiting for Approval”?

It seems that Gray Black has no idea what somaek is, because he’s thinking that somaek is a cocktail made of hard liquor.
Somaek is made from mixing soju with beer.
Soju is itself a rough drink so some people mix it with beer to give beer a kick while making soju a bit palatable.
Soju is rice wine not rice liquor, and typically has ABV of 16 ~ 25%.
When one mixes soju with beer, it’s a little bit of soju with lots of beer.
So “filling the brim” meant beer not soju. There was a bit of soju at the bottom with the rest being filled with beer.
Beer as we know has an ABV of 4 ~ 7%.
Anyways, 20 glasses of somaek assuming the glasses are 150ml, means that the guy had about 6 beers(each 12oz can) and 11 glasses of wine(5 oz), which yould give you a BAC of 0.26.
As such I call bullshit on Gray Black’s claim of 0.516 and his attempts to discredit the Japanese news article and make Yoon look good.
Also, regarding martinis, ABV of Martini Vermouth is around 15%, so Gray Black’s claim of 20% is plain wrong.
So it is fermented like wine rather than fermented and distilled like a liquor?
It is nice to see your fantasies aren’t all about life, politics, and human nature.
A more accurate statement, due to corporate optimization, is “cassava liquor”.
You might be wrong twice.
KM is wrong….again. Soju is a distilled spirit, not a rice wine.
Soju (English pronunciation: /ˈsoʊdʒuː/; Korean: 소주; Hanja: 燒酒) is a clear and colorless distilled alcoholic beverage traditionally made from rice, but later from other grains and has a flavor similar to vodka. It is usually consumed neat. Its alcohol content varies from about 12.5% to 53% alcohol by volume (ABV), although since 2007 low alcohol soju below 20% has become more popular.
Traditionally, most brands of soju are produced in the Andong region, but also in other regions and countries. While soju was traditionally made from rice, South Korean ethanol producers replace rice with other starch, such as cassava due to significantly lower capital costs. Soju often appears similar to several other East Asian liquors while differing in alcohol contents.
As part of efforts to support Gray Black’s fake news and misinformation efforts, ChickenHead has jumped into the fray with his attempts to spread misinformation.
He only uses the Etymology of the word soju but ignores the ABV which is lower than that of liquors such as whiskey, bourbon, and vodka.
He even ignored this important fact from his Wikipedia source
Currently, soju with less than 17% ABV are widely available
17% ABV is more closer to ABV of wine and of course Martini Vermouth, which is also wine based.
I am just wondering how many layers of nonsense you will go through trying to rationalize or ignore mistakes or lies from previous layers.
Have you though of a job in government service?
ChickenHead,
I know what you are trying to do.
You know I’m right.
So, you’ll do everything in your power to deflect and project while trying to discredit me as part of your efforts to make it look like Gray Black is correct when he isn’t.
Still, you have yet to offer credible backs to rebut my ABV and BAC calculations, which means Gray Black is the one bullshitting here.
Before we evaluate your alcohol calculations, let’s evaluate your knowledge of alcohol.
More importantly, let’s evaluate your ability to understand when you have made a mistake and see if you have enough self awareness to recognize it… and then correct it.
So far, it seems you do not.
So, while I can do your assigned math homework, my answer will not matter. You will continue to insist your answer is more correct.
This is because emotionally, you are a 9 year-old.
Let’s go back to your knowledge of alcohol.
None of these calculations mean anything.
I have seen people drink a lot over a long time and be completely functional. There are many things that can be managed to minimize alcohol’s effect.
But more importantly, once you get to a certain level of society, especially one where drinking is required, you have mastered the art of appearing to drink a lot but not drinking as much as people think.
In theory, you are keeping your wits while everyone else is spiraling downward.
In reality, all the people who matter are doing the same thing.
Unless I see clear public drunken behavior, this is just manufactured nonsense to make Yoon look worse than he is.
We went through this with Trump’s TWO scoops of ice cream.
Bonus: I knew a guy who was a real alcoholic. He would slam shots, get drunk, buy rounds, pass out on the bar. Every night of his life. He was a good guy and everybody liked him but a pathetic and useless person. I think all the high-speed stockbrokers and the bartenders only tolerated him being around becasue he was nice, bought drinks, and always tipped.
And then I learned it was all an act and he would “pass out” near people talking about things that he needed to know to get rich.
They never even considered what was happening.
But hey, keep looking stupid with whatever numbers you are churning and saying that soju is a wine.
Chicken Head
It is obvious that you know that I’m right.
It is interesting to note that none of the Setaffarians have come up with a viable calculation regarding the BAC of a 198lbs man who drank 20 glasses of somaek for 12 ~ 14 hours.
CRIMINAL CODE (of the Republic of Korea)
(Wholly amended as of Jan. 1, 1998)
PART I GENERAL RULES
CHAPTER I LIMIT OF APPLICABILITY OF CRIMINAL CODE
Article 10 (Persons with Mental Disorders)
(1) The act of a person who, because of mental disorder, is unable to make discriminations or to
control one’s will, shall not be punished.
(2) For the conduct of a person who, because of mental disorder, is deficient in the abilities mentioned in the preceding paragraph, the punishment shall be mitigated.
(3) The provisions of the preceding two paragraphs shall not apply to the act of one who, in anticipation of danger of a crime, has intentionally incurred one’s mental disorder.
Subsection (3) refers to pre-boozing to avoid culpability for a crime.
Unintentionally being discombobulated due to boozing is, however, an acceptable defense under Article 10 of the Criminal Code
Will be interesting to see how Yoon runs his defense when the subject of being continuously liquored up comes up.
Instead of all the global-warming grade math, let’s take a more simple approach.
20 glasses over 12 hours (to have the harshest requirements) is…
1.7 glasses of somaek per hour.
Seriously? You might be able to sustain this rate indefinitely without even a real buzz.
This quantity of alcohol is not deadly.
This quantity of alcohol over that much time doesn’t even bring on dysfunction.
This accusation is the Russian píss hooker of somaek.
The opinion on drinking must’ve changed a lot since I was in the ROK.
When I was teaching English to business people almost all the men cited “drinking” as their primary hobby. I suppose the aviation community is completely different than it used to be too.
They don’t have the power to put it down like they used to.
