Law Enforcement Condemns Violence at Pro-Yoon Protests Outside of Seoul Western District Court House

Anyone caught harming the police or damaging property is hopefully punished according to law. I did not like seeing mandatory service policemen getting assaulted by violent leftists over the years and the Korean right should not be doing the same thing:

Law enforcement agencies on Sunday condemned the violent protests at the Seoul Western District Court, the first-ever riot targeting the judiciary in South Korea, vowing to restore order and hold those responsible accountable. Sparked by the formal arrest of President Yoon Suk Yeol earlier in the day, the attacks have sent shockwaves through the country.

After the court granted a warrant for Yoon’s extended detention at 2:50 a.m. Sunday, protesters forcefully entered the court by climbing over walls and smashing windows with ashtrays, stones, plastic chairs and trash at around 3:10 a.m.

The protesters also assaulted police officials stationed around the building by spraying fire extinguishers and striking them with shields and batons seized from the police. Around 30 police officials were injured in the process of restraining the protesters, according to police.

Korea Herald

You can read more at the link, but the article says that 89 people were arrested. Now compare this to the massively more violent U.S. beef protests where only 13 people were arrested and President Moon ended up giving them a pardon.

Moon Jae-in was once arrested for similar. He was quite proud of it. As have many of the other DP(R)K leadership. All I see here are future politicians.

I see that you edited out your comment where you justify this violence, because you pointed out that the “Korean left” also used violence 17 years ago during American beef protests, so why shouldn’t the Yoon’s patriotic fighters be allowed to do the same thing.

I’ll tell you why you’re wrong.

1) It was 17 to 20 years ago. South Korea has evolved. Violence during protests is no longer acceptable in society. That is why the riot cops had their tear gas, their batons, and their aggressive tactics taken away and trashed. The results were good, the protestors were always able to protest peacefully. There was an unwritten social contract between the police and protestors that we can participate in protests without bashing on each other.

2) But in 2025, that contract was broken by the leaders of the Rightwing party who encouraged the mob to attack the court house, to hunt down the judges, and then threatened the Constitutional court as the next target of terrorism if they don’t get their way. It’s ironic that it was the Right party that used to always preached about rule of law – a rule of law that they are routinely breaking now, including use of terrorism. Why is it that the PPP rightwing party continues to turn the clock backwards, rolling back all the progress that we’ve made in recent years? Why?

3) Never in South Korea’s history where they attacked the country’s judicial system. If the courts and the judges are afraid to do their jobs, the country’s law and order will collapse. The mobsters have really p*ssed off the wrong crowd. They’re now promising to throw those captured people in prison for a long time for terrorism. The courts are not controlled by the DPK party, as you keep insinuating. The judges and courts are supposed to be non-partisan institutions. So quit your accusations that they are the same as the commie DPK opposition party.

Hypocrisy and projection are always the left’s stock-in-trade.
