Conservative Presidential Candidates Want to Change ROK Constitution to be More Similar to the U.S.
|It looks like ROK conservatives are preparing for President Yoon’s impeachment to be confirmed and are now communicating their platform for the upcoming snap election:

Labor Minister Kim Moon-soo, left, and Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo pay tribute to the 2.28 Democracy Movement Monument in Daegu, Friday. Yonhap
“The current Constitution, adopted in 1987, must change. People should not experience [DPK] Rep. Lee’s 29 impeachment motions or the president’s martial law imposition ever again,” Han told reporters Sunday. “Accomplishing this requires a willingness to make sacrifices on the part of those entrusted with important tasks.”
In an interview, Han said that if elected president, he would advocate for a constitutional amendment to introduce a four-year term with the possibility of reelection and would step down in 2028 to ensure that the next presidential and general elections coincide. He also said establishing a congress with two separate legislative chambers, similar to the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, is essential.
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon also echoed the idea, suggesting that whoever is the next president should resign after three years in office so as to align the two elections (presidential and general). Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo expressed his support for the four-year term with reelection and a bicameral legislature but disagreed with the proposal to shorten the next presidential term to three years.

Of course they want the same system as the United States that’s well on its way to dictatorship, if not already there.
The issue here is that one man, the president, can pick and choose his loyal men of his choosing, to postings for the critical offices of the government.
That’s what Yoon and Trump have done – parachute their own loyal men into critical positions. I’m talking about the “Yes sir, whatever you say sir!”, or “I love you sir, I will kill for you sir!” types who were put there not for their ability, but for following orders from the President without any question.
If you post those types of men in the Justice office, the Intelligence, the military, and even the Supreme Court.. see what happens. Just look at the United States today, with little checks and balances left, and zero dissenting voices from the scared ruling party members and the media. They’ve been thoroughly cowed through intimidations and threats towards their jobs and even towards their own personal safety. They look like North Korea, with their party members doing nothing but praising the great ability of their President Trump who has just performed a miracle on America. That is extremely scary.
I’m all for getting rid of the single, five year Presidential term, replaced by the possible back to back two, four year terms. But at the same time, South Korea needs to give less power to the President because South Korea’s presidents have done too many power abuses in the past, with the worst being perpetrated by soon-to-be ex-President in prison, Yoon Suck You.
I think “dictatorship” does not mean what you think it means.
Trump said exactly what he was going to do, he was elected by popular vote to do it, he has been doing what he promised, and his popularity is high.
This is pretty much the opposite of a dictator.
Hitler had 95% popularity rate when he took power. Was that Democracy?
Definition of Dictatorship.
A dictatorship is a government or a social situation where one person makes all the rules and decisions without input from anyone else. Dictatorship implies absolute power — one person who takes control — of a political situation.

The United States has few checks and balances left (not all are gone yet). Most of the high positions are taken over by Trump people who will rubberstamp Trump’s orders. And all the cops that uphold the Constitution are fired or being fired as we speak. It took Hitler 180 days to consolidate his power. Trump may take even less time, the way he’s going now.

You may ignore this video, but it’s for others who maybe curious what I’m talking about.
So did Hitler. And he was wildly popular in Nazi Germany. Was that democracy?
Is the Trump Is Hitler thing still active?
Hitler’s evolution from appointed official to supreme ruler followed a surprisingly legal pathway.
The German people went along with this because Hitler offered an excellent alternative to what was forced on Germany after WW1, communists attempts to replicate Russia, and the social disorder Jews were promoting (homo, trans, soft on crime, etc.)… among other things.
When reading all sides of history, you find things are not always so black and white. When you bring this up, the indoctrinated yell you are a Hitler sympathizer and a Putin fanboi.
You don’t have to agree with everyone but you should try to understand them.
Life is easier when you don’t believe all the lies and even easier when you dont lie to yourself.
So is Trump still Hitler?
Every successful leader has a bit of Hitler and a bit of Gandhi in them, and an argument can always be made that THEY ARE EXACTLY THE SAME by simply looking at the parallels.
Believe what you want.
ChickenHead
Just admit the obvious.
That you love facism and would like to see the United States of America become a facist nation.
That you regret that a liberal President stood up to the Axis and prevented them from turning to the USA into a facist nation.
And that you look forward to Putin taking over the USA and thus fulfilling your dream of the USA becoming a facist nation.
Just admit the obvious.
It would make things a lot simpler.
“That you love facism and would like to see the United States of America become a facist nation.”
Give me your definition of fascism. I frequently speak against many fundamental beliefs of fascism… corporatism would be an example.
“That you regret that a liberal President stood up to the Axis and prevented them from turning to the USA into a facist nation.”
Globalists, corporatists, leftists, communists, neofeudalists, etc., are not looking out for nations, which should be looking out for citizens.
“And that you look forward to Putin taking over the USA and thus fulfilling your dream of the USA becoming a facist nation.”
Give me a pathway for Putin to take over the USA and what he would do with it.
Don’t slip too far into the crazytalk or it stops being fun.
If anyone has to give you a definition of fascism, then you’re hopelessly lost.
One Orange man is the problem, but the American people aren’t off the hook. They voted in this idiot and think of him as the Dear Leader. Their forefathers died fighting for nothing, what a sad thing to say.
Shameful idiots who will soon suffer and will suffer big. Markets are already tanking, the US taking on the whole world, turning the entire world, including their former friends and allies, into US enemies. What foolish MAGAs.
Don’t slip too far into the crazytalk or it stops being fun.
Funny you would say that considering that you are the one posting crazytalk along with @setnaffa, @Flyingsword, Liz or liz, and last but not the least @GIKorea.
As I suspected, you would not give your definition of fascism becasue, when you looked it up, you realized your accusations were nonsense and “fascism” is not really what you are complaining about.
You just know that word and know that people yell it a lot at things they don’t like.
KM was probably thrilled with Trump’s speech tonight where he both mentioned reciprocal tariffs and multi-billion dollar investments by Korea into joint ventures with US and Japan.
He said the old days are gone; but that Korea wants to work together with the USA.
As usual @setnaffa spreads fake news and misinformation.
A simple fact check reveals the opposite.
U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that South Korea’s average tariff is four times higher than the United States’ tariff although America has helped the Asian ally militarily and in “so many other ways.”
Trump also made a call for removing the CHIPS Act, casting it as a “horrible thing.” Under the act, the previous Joe Biden administration agreed to provide grants to two South Korean tech firms, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, to support their chipmaking investments in the U.S.
“You should get rid of the CHIPS Act,” he said, speaking to House Speaker Mike Johnson behind his podium. “And whatever is left over, Mr. Speaker, you should use it to reduce debt or any other reason you want.”
If @setnaffa was talking about the statement below, it seems more of Trump’s wishful thinking
“My administration is also working on a gigantic natural gas pipeline in Alaska, among the largest in the world, where Japan, South Korea and other nations want to be our partner — with investments of trillions of dollars each,” he said.
It looks like more of Trump bashing Korea instead of “so called Korea working together with the US” as claimed by @setnaffa.
