Ewha Women’s University Admits Special Treatment Given for Admission of Choi Soon-sil’s Daughter
|What I am wondering is how many other well connected Korean kids received special treatment to attend Ewha Women’s University as well? I seriously doubt Choi’s daughter is the only one to receive special treatment during the admissions process:
Chung Yoo-ra, the daughter of President Park Geun-hye’s embattled confidante Choi Soon-sil, was illegally admitted to a prestigious university in Seoul and was also given special treatment in academic records after enrollment, the Education Ministry confirmed Friday.
In a briefing to release the result of the audit of Ewha University and its faculty members, the ministry said that the school manipulated its admission process to accept Chung and she was given overly generous marks despite not attending classes, taking exams and turning in assignments.
Chung is a 19-year-old horseback rider and the daughter of Choi, the civilian accused of peddling influence and meddling in state affairs through her ties to Park. [Korea Herald]

Along the same lines … I’ve wondered how many of these opposition party officials who are clamoring for Choi’s daughter to be kicked out of Ewha … are secretly thinking … but don’t investigate anyone beyond her … or my kid might also get outed.
And I’m also wondering about the professors and administrators at Ewha who are being called onto the carpet about this matter … does anyone think they are going to hold back about other kids who’ve received special treatment if any of those kids’ parents are involved or closely associated with the people making all the noise about Choi’s daughter?
Need to investigate all the “elite” colleges and high schools. Rampant cooruption is everywhere in Korea. Sure Seoul Foreign School has a bunch of Korean kids who don’t qualify for a foreign high school attending, for example.
But there really isn’t anything to gain for a Korean kid going to Seoul Foreign School – because it doesn’t prepare you for a Korean university college entrance exam. Basically, opting to go Seoul Foreign School means you have already decided (admitted) you’re not going to bother trying to get into an elite Korean university, and will be going overseas to a foreign university instead. In Korean society, a degree from a foreign university is nice to have as a second degree, but success in life is still largely based on the alumni connections you made at the Korean university you attended.
