Makes sense to bring troops to their border in case all hell breaks loose and refugees start piling in.

Side note: We’re kinda running out of ISIS folks to kill in Syria.
I’m wondering what will happen when that happens. Will we bail or continue with the failed policies of leaders before?

Our long term interests in the former territory of Syria is everything east of the Euphrates in which we have been assisting the YPG/SDF capture.
http://syria.liveuamap.com/ is a good site to help visualize the geopolitical battle we have waged there.
At least Trump stopped the Obama era funding of the Al-Nusra Front (al-Qaeda in Syria) to destabilize the region/overthrow Assad.

Are Kurds the new Israelis?

It is quite possible. Currently Iraq has its hands full cleaning up the remaining Daesh to worry about the Kurds independence votes as of lateā€¦but time will tell (3-6months). The Kurds/PMU have helped them a lot with cleaning up Iraq, so it might be a concession they give. If not it will be real bad news for us.
As far as the Syrian region. That is an absolute mess, but no country wants to start WW3 (except Israel and maybe the House of Saud).

WW3 doesn’t have to start out as a planned event either party wants to happen.
We have some very high tech very high value kit over Syria at present. Facing Russian fighters.
