@GIKorea: If you drive by the old front gate, you can see signs for new apartment construction. I’ll take a picture of that the next time I get a chance.
My guess is that even though they had been renovated and were actually pretty nice inside, Koreans weren’t interested in buying those old style apartments. The above ground-only parking was also a likely a real sore point. Now they can build 30+ story buildings with underground parking and they should be really pricey because you can drive out the gate, pass through Tunnel #1 and be in downtown Seoul in a matter of minutes.

Most of the time I cannot print an article from ROK Drop, is there a reason?

Practically lived at Hannam Village for three years (86-89) visiting our friends who lived in H bldg (nice Han River view from 13th fl). A Saturday morning ritual was to drink coffee from their balcony while watching college students protest and throw gas bottles at the police. The police would gas them back and beat them with their sticks. Forget the name of the university that was across the street (not there anymore). It really was a ritual: The cops and protesters would all show up at 1000, they’d clash for two hours, it stopped at noon, everyone went home. Next Saturday, lather-rinse-repeat.

Speaking of Hannam Village. Bet the same thing will happen on Yongsan, see high rise apartments spring up as soon as that land is returned. All this talk of green space is just silly, the Koreans won’t be able to resist building apartments.

Very expensive apartments are going up on Hannam Village. Probably like the pricey low rise ones across the street next to Daum.

@Flyingsword did they finally give up the idea of a country club? In the 80s the groundskeepers used to say after the US left they were going to turn Yongsan into an exclusive country club with golf course as it’s centerpiece.
@Guitard, it doesn’t surprise me they are building brand new apartments there. Who ever is making them is likely going to make huge profits. Like Flyingsword said, I would not be surprised if the so called green space Yongsan is supposed to become in fact becomes much smaller than planned to make way for more apartments.

@GIKorea
I’ve always said it would become a Central Park of apartments.
I poked my phone camera inside the back gate (next to the hospital) of Hannam Village earlier today. Looks very different, to say the least.
@Guitard, do you know what is supposed to be built there?
Just read an interesting article.

@William, I just tested printing a page from ROK Drop and it worked. Has anyone else had any problems printing?
