It sure isn’t but that won’t stop command from continuing the 18-year old fallacy that is the curfew. 🙄
There was a time when the curfew was needed, late 1960s-early 1970s when the ROK Army did night patrols looking for infiltrators, especially near the DMZ, but that curfew extended into the civilian population as well, and for good reason. However that time is long gone, Korea is general, especially Seoul is a country/city that never sleeps. Logic dictates locking up soldiers like criminals only makes the issues when they are “paroled” even worse. In 1989, there was no curfew, yes he had fun, raised a little hell, but 98% of any issues were handled at the unit/battalion level and never went higher. If MPs or CID got involved it naturally went higher, but almost everything could be taken care of by town CP or at worst SDNCO. I realize at larger posts and maybe further south that wasn’t true but history of civilization makes that case, more people, more issues. TL;DR: End the curfew, allow troops to be adults and face consequences for stupid actions.
You’re talking about the pre-911 curfew. I was talking about post-911 one.
