Report Claims USFK To End All Services on Yongsan Garrison This Year
|The long planned for closure of Yongsan Garrison in Seoul will officially happen over the next couple of months:
The U.S. Forces Korea will end all services at a major military base in the heart of Seoul within this year to prepare the return of the land to the South Korean government, military officials said Saturday.
The U.S. military has been moving its bases from around the country to a refurbished garrison in Pyeongtaek, some 70 kilometers south of Seoul, since 2017.
While the USFK headquarters and the Eighth Army have moved to the new headquarters, called Camp Humphreys, the U.S. military has been preparing to vacate Yongsan Garrison in central Seoul to speed up the relocation processes.

Always be careful using always and never (as well as all or none).
The commissary and DFAC are not scheduled for closing until Sep 2021, Post Office Aug 2022, gas station is reducing hours but not closing, the list goes on…
Source: Yongsan post commander held a town hall last Thurs (KST). It was live-streamed on FB and the slides are still posted. See U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan Facebook page. Scroll down to USAG YONGSAN TOWN HALL, 29 August 2019, see Key Closures / Changes slide.
I know 3 gov’t civilians PCS’ing to Korea by the end of this year, and their orders still read: Seoul. Thus, the PCS’ing in to Yongsan continues.
Mcgeehee,
What abouet the support office on the north side of the parking lot in front of the Dragon Hill Lodge? Will that still be operating, and have the DBIDS, ID Card issue, and ration card issue?
What about the Dragon Hill Lodge itself? Is that going to stay open?
This is silly. Yongsan not closing till at least CFC can move. Earliest 2022 and with known construction delays and problems most likely will be 2024.
Yonhap printing the fake news that Commie Moon wants to hear. Anything to take the heat off Comrade Cho Kuk.
Neither the DHL nor 1RC are on the schedule for closing.
A Q&A on DHL’s FB page states it is not part of YRP, thus not scheduled for moving nor closing.
Commie Moon wants ALL of it back for the Central Park apartment mega complex. I don’t see the DHL staying as is.

According to the slides the PX will close on 01JAN2020 and the Commissary in Sept. 2021. Most services are closing in 2019. It appears that Yonhap is being overzealous in their reporting.
