South Korean Woman Becomes Infected with Coronavirus After Visit to Thailand

It is not even safe to visit Thailand now:

People arriving at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, are checked for fever at a quarantine checkpoint on Jan. 28, 2020. (Yonhap)

South Korea on Tuesday confirmed its 16th case of the novel coronavirus infection, with the latest patient having recently visited Thailand, as more stringent quarantine measures are being taken to stem the spread of the virus.

The patient, a 42-year-old South Korean woman, returned from a trip to Thailand on Jan. 19 and started feeling chills on Jan. 25, according to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

Her condition did not improve despite receiving treatment for several days, so she was tested at a general hospital in Gwangju, 330 kilometers south of Seoul, on Monday, with the test results coming back positive. Thailand has reported 19 cases of virus infections.

When it is brought to Korea from a random encounter in Thailand it is time to consider it a pandemic… and move resources from management to prevention.

Hmmm. The blog post’s title says “man,” but the article says “woman.”

So far the coronavirus map shows Thailand has 25 people diagnosed with it.
Odds this one person just happened to run into one of those 25…I’d say is low.

2 of the latest cases attended a business conference in Singapore, they and a Malaysian man contracted the virus (only ones so far ID). Conference held at the Grand Hyatt so no telling how many more were exposed there, let alone at airports etc. on their travels. https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia/coronavirus-south-korea-confirms-new-case-man-infected-in-singapore

Tencent accidently and temporarily published numbers like 154K infected and 24K dead before going back to authorized totals…

There were 5 Million folks from Wuhan who escaped before the quarantine. And many, many Chinese flew to Thailand.

The idea that this is “contained” is beyond ludicrous.

May the medical folks quickly find effective treatments.

Chinese “coronavirus whistleblower” doctor died.

But, he was 34 so he was old and decrepit, and probably going to die soon anyway.
Nothing to see here. Move along.
