In Korean, defectors used to be called talbukja (νλΆμ), or literally, “escape-North-people,” i.e., escapees. I once heard tell that talbukja has since been replaced by another, more politically correct term that doesn’t offend the DPRK, but I don’t know what that term is, or even if such talk is correct.
