U.S. Embassy in Seoul Removes Black Lives Matter Banner

The U.S. embassy’s virtue signaling didn’t last very long:

The U.S. Embassy in Seoul took down a “Black Lives Matter” banner from its mission building Monday, only two days after the banner was unfurled in solidarity with “the fight against racial injustice and police brutality” in the United States.

In a statement sent to The Korea Times Tuesday, an embassy spokeswoman said Ambassador Harry Harris removed the banner to avoid misapprehension that he supports any specific groups leading the protests.

“The ambassador’s intent was not to support or encourage donations to any specific organization,” the spokeswoman said. “To avoid the misperception that American taxpayer dollars were spent to benefit such organizations, he directed that the banner be removed.

“This in no way lessens the principles and ideals expressed by raising the banner, and the embassy will look for other ways to convey fundamental American values in these times of difficulty at home.

You can read more at the link, but it does seem strange that the State Department would be advocating for an organization that supports illegal immigration and defunding police departments.

“…and the embassy will look for other ways to convey fundamental American values in these times of difficulty at home.”

Well, they left the pride flag up so the fundamental American value of “a dude sucking a big fat chode deserves special attention” has been conveyed.

Sorry, but that’s not virture signalling. Showing support for a legitimate cause is simply the right thing to do. But, of course, with the racist-in-chief in the White House now, that banner definitely was not going to stay there long.

I am keeping up. Trump is 100% racist.

The whole Trump is Racist thing is so 2016.

So is yelling RAAAAAYSIS! in general.

The.word racist has lost pretty much all its impact… as the Little Liberal Who Cried Racist has long been screaming it in an attempt to hide realities like some cultures being superior to others or secure borders are good for citizens… all the way to calling anyone racist who disagrees with their nutjob liberal agenda.

This is too bad… as the minor cases of real racism are overlooked in favor of sensationalized manufactured cases of racism.

But the leftist agenda requires constant conflict, as it gets no traction when everyone is happy and employed and getting along.

So the question arises… is a pride flag or a BLM banner “showing support for a legitimate cause” or is it selective virtue signaling?

If you go by pure numbers, more white people live in disadvantaged conditions than black people. Where is their banner?

Incels outnumber homosexuals. Why don’t they get recognition?

Smoking kills more people than cops.

How about the embassy works on providing excellent and efficient services to.American citizens and leave the virtue-signaling politics to the activists and politicians.

Are Canadians even allowed to have an opinion on this kind of thing?

Born American, served in the military as an American, retired from the military as an American, still an American, and have never been to Canada.

Charles Manson was born in America. Richard Speck was born in America. Ted Bundy was born in America. Etc.

Being an American is a lot more than where you were born. It is a lot more than merely being a US Citizen. And if you really served in the US Armed Forces, you ought to know that.

Calling our leaders scoundrels to each other is our right. Broadcasting it internationally is unamerican. And quite frankly makes one look rather lame.

This isn’t about Trump-worship. Even the crowds that attend his rallies are not as excited about Trump as they are about an America that could be.

If the moochers and looters were fired.

Be very careful how you respond. You keep on trashing America and we’ll know you’re a troll. You keep on mouthing provably false accusations about Americans and we’ll know you’re a troll You keep on tossing out claims of racism against Trump and we’ll know you’re a pretty pathetic troll.

Oh, I really did serve, CH. What I do not do is childishly denigrate the service of another person because I dislike his opinion. I’m not trashing on America. I’m trashing on America’s embarrassment, the current occupant of the White House.

I’m curious why you think Trump is an embarrassment to America.

The best I can tell, he wants America to be economically and militarily successful as well as a global leader in space, technology, and energy production.

It would seem, while those who can no longer take advantage of America cry about Trump, he is actually a credit rather than an embarrassment.

If your priorities are not putting America first, it would make sense that you would see him as an embarrassment.

So I am curious what your priorities for America actually are.

Actually, I think he looks more like Pippa. And I say a lot of good things about my country, the USA. For one, there was no need to “make America great again”. America has always been great. Contrary to Trump’s stated opinion, he does not equal America.

Jonhenry, I touched on several specific points which you avoided addressing by making meaningless blanket statements.

If you don’t think Trump is trying to change unbalanced trade deals, protect the border, reduce needless regulations, restart industry, reduce a bloated global military footprint, reduce involvement in goalless foreverwars, leave limiting and exploitive treaties, etc… tell us what you think Trump is.

CH, if he actually gave you deliberative, coherent, and well-thought-out answers, I would be willing to apologize for occasionally baiting him.

However, I doubt he has anything more rational than the lies from Vox, Slate, or XiNN. I would appreciate being proven wrong.

In fact, I have great friends who served in the US Navy. It would be nice to add another. But not a ‘bot or NPC…

Johnhenry, I can’t help but notice you are insulting and hateful to Trump but when confronted with the fine points of his pro-America agenda, you became suddenly quiet and unwilling to explain why you don’t support these programs nor are you offering what equally pro-American goals you would replace them with.

This would not be expected from an intelligent patriotic American and former servicemember with strong desires and ideas about how to maintain and improve America’s success. This is exactly what a Canadian would do who has little detailed knowledge of America and no desire for it to succeed.

Bonus: Trump just won his court case on forcing hospitals and insurers to disclose rates normally hidden from patients. While the media hyperventilates over how many scoops of ice cream he has, he is quietly trying to reform the darkest areas of healthcare through real capitalistic competition rather than the current crony capitalism and socialism by force. You may share your opinion on this as well.
