Sorry, I’m going back a few days to this thread but it is an “open thread”, this Russia (supposedly Russia paying the Taliban to get Americans/Coalition soldiers) story is now starting to bum me out. I don’t think it looks good. We will have to see… just saying, more coming out.
@myyellowbike, the story came from the New York Times from the typical anonymous source, so you should automatically be skeptical. This is the same paper that consistently published inaccurate information during the whole Russian collusion narrative.
For the Russians pay the Taliban narrative there was no consensus within the intelligence community on whether this was true or not.
Chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement that the Defense Department continued to evaluate the intelligence. “To date, DOD has no corroborating evidence to validate the recent allegations found in open-source reports,” he said.
Additionally there has been only 4 U.S. military hostile fire deaths in Afghanistan in 2020 and the last one was back in February. So if the Russians are supposedly wanting to pay the Taliban to kill U.S. soldiers they are not doing a very good job.
Maybe later as more intelligence is collected this bounty story is validated but making policy off of bad intelligence is what got us into the Iraq War and now people want us to go to war with Russia over what may be bad intelligence?
Plus this happened back in March so why is it coming out now?
My theory is whatever political operative the Democrats have working in the intel community saw this and likely leaked it back in March but then COVID hit. So the NYT sat on this story until a convenient time to continue the death by a thousand cuts on Trump. The likely figured this was a great story to leak before the 4th of July weekend and then have the news talk shows talk about it endlessly over the weekend. Whether it is true or not the media does not care, it just gives them something to bash Trump with.

No servicemembers have been killed in Afghanistan since February.
Guess Trump solved the problem.
Next.

Like I keep saying. The NY Times has *never* met a dictator they didn’t love–and they hate Trump…

Thanks GIKorea. I believe that.
Allegedly, some of this was in intelligence while Bolton was there, so that is Sept. 2019 and before.
It still sets up a timeline beyond February 2020. It could be wrong, it could be right. I’m just saying, the timeline certainly appears to go back further.

Okay, doing some research, I posted the link to the National Security Advisor, O’Brien saying Trump was never told this, linked it above.
But the allegations seem to say this does go into last year. There may be a paper trail. It’s not just Feb. 2020.
@myyellowbike, it does appear that the timeline is stretching back a year, but let’s see if the intelligence ends up being confirmed or not. Personally I would not be surprised if the Russians were meddling in Afghanistan as payback for the Russian “mercenaries” killed by the U.S. military in Syria in 2018:
Regardless information like this should not be leaked to the news media. Especially when it is not even confirmed and the intelligence is clearly being leaked for political purposes.
The study shows that if you take hydroxychloroquine and z-pack after getting the coronavirus it can help you recover from the symptoms which is exactly what happened with Daniel Dae Kim when he was infected.

But this National Security Advisor says Trump was not briefed ever.

Bolton is every bit as credible as the NY Times.
It still sets up a timeline beyond February 2020. It could be wrong, it could be right. I’m just saying, the timeline certainly appears to go back further.

But this has been pushed back.

Exactly, it should not be leaked.

Sometimes they do okay, thank you for your response.
Remember how all the news media was saying that hydroxychloroquine doesn’t help with coronavirus? It ended up being fake news;
https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/02/health/hydroxychloroquine-coronavirus-detroit-study/index.html
The study shows that if you take hydroxychloroquine and z-pack after getting the coronavirus it can help you recover from the symptoms which is exactly what happened with Daniel Dae Kim when he was infected.

That’s because the news media lie like fish swim. Anything to hurt Trump.
