Wife of Belgium Ambassador Uses Diplomatic Immunity to Avoid Assault Charges

This should come as no surprise:

This blurred surveillance footage, obtained by Yonhap News TV from the victim’s family on April 20, 2021, shows the scene of an incident in which the wife of Belgian Ambassador Peter Lescouhier allegedly assaulted two employees at a local clothing store. (Yonhap)

Having been probed over assault allegations, the wife of Belgian Ambassador to South Korea Peter Lescouhier will avoid assault charges due to diplomatic immunity.

The spouse faced police questioning on May 6 over allegations that she slapped a clothing store employee in the face and another staff in the back of her head early last month.

You can read more at the link, but I suspect that the ambassador will likely be removed by Belgium and replaced with someone else since his wife is now persona non-grata in South Korea.

Google returns several links on this issue. And YouTube has the video.

Has the the Korean Government officially labeled her persona non grata?

That step, regardless of her “crimes”, could have serious financial impacts for South Korea in the EU. They expect their Diplomats (and families) to be untouchable.

Also, it’s not a question of her “using” Diplomatic Immunity. Diplomats and their families are accorded this to avoid banana republics and the like from using Diplomats as hostages based on trumped-up charges.

Regardless of guilt or innocence she has fairly or unfairly marked as committing a “faux pas” in diplomatic circles, that will have everyone from Belgium viewed with suspicion until she leaves country. It’s like when I walked into a Korean shop in a town that did not cater to Americans. I was very obviously followed around until I left. I walked in with the intention of browsing and buying, but it was obvious they didn’t want GI business. Went back the next week with my KATUSA roommate and it was old home week for him & I wasn’t obviously followed. I did buy a few things and my roommate found a shop to get a few gifts for his family.

I don’t know… that swollen red cheek and bloodshot eye doesn’t look possible from the quick sissy no-effort slap she got.

It’s because the Ambassador’s wife looked Chinese but non-communist…

I think shopgirls were trying to get easy blood money. No excusing the CCP spy’s behavior but that’s no one-time bitchslap.
