Koreans Have More Favorable Opinion of U.S.-ROK Alliance Under the Biden Administration
|Really the only changes between the Biden and Trump administrations is that Biden asked for less money from the ROK and largely ignored the Kim regime:
Most South Koreans see the alliance with the United States as stable, a dramatic increase over last year, according to an annual poll from a government-funded think tank.
The Seoul-based Korea Institute for Defense Analysis polled 1,000 South Koreans, 67% of whom view the alliance favorably. The figure represents a “substantial” increase from last year’s 47%, and the two years prior to 2020.
“The relatively low level of stability perceived by the public during these past few years implies that they were concerned about the disharmony between [South Korean President Moon Jae-in] and the Trump administration over North Korea policies,” Hong Sukji, an institute fellow, wrote in her analysis published Tuesday.

Effectively, 61% of the respondents are not happy with the USFK presence in South Korea. So perhaps the US should start making sounds like we’re going to do another Afghanistan shuffle?
“they were concerned about the disharmony between [South Korean President Moon Jae-in] and the Trump administration over North Korea policies.”
That’s a funny way to say, “they were concerned about the disharmony over Trump wanting more money.”
At least Trump was willing to consider signing the peace treaty in Korea. That is, if it wasn’t for that snake named Shinzo Abe whose Japanese far right party has more than once let it be known that they dream of and desperately want to see a war in Korea – just like how the Korean War bailed Japan out of the financial mess they were in, after WWII. Japan’s lobbying of Trump and America is well known, thanks to the book by John Bolton.
From setnaffa’s comments I detect a sense of arrogance. Something along the lines of “You don’t appreciate us? OK, then we’ll leave and make you regret it.”
However he forgets that when it came to Afghanistan years of misguided investments and efforts created a dysfunctional government and military that could not handle the Taliban when left on their own.
Korea is different. Sure there are problems, but not in the scale of Afghanistan, and the Korean military, sexual harrasment cases and the unneeded carrier aside, is far from the hodge podge force that crumbled at the sight of the Taliban.
One needs to see the cases where the South Korean military confronted the North Koreans and pretty much stood their ground and gave them some.
So, if an agreement is reached for an orderly withdrawal of the USFK, it won’t be an disaster, but another phase of the KORUS alliance.
And even if there is a withdrawal some token units will probably remain like the CNFK in Busan to provide services to US warships which would dock there.
TOK, I am not in favor of USFK leaving while I still have relatives and friends in South Korea. But I have zero confidence in China Joe and his handlers wanting to block China from building their own “Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere.”
Even SCOAMF mentioned that one should not underestimate the ability of Joey Leg Hairs to screw up any situation.
Jane you ignorant slut!
There is no way the US will pull out of South Korea.
Mark, you should never overestimate the intellectual capacity of a President who has lost control of his bowels in front of the Pope and Prince Charles.
As I reminded folks, even SCOAMF said Joey Leg Hairs can screw up anything.
