Yoon Sees Small Bounce in ROK Presidential Poll After Saying He Would Investigate Moon Administration

It looks like Yoon Suk-yeol’s comments about investigating the Moon Jae-in administration if elected had the desired effect of giving him a slight bounce in the polls:

A latest poll showed that the gap between the two leading presidential candidates Yoon Suk-yeol and Lee Jae-myung has shrunk since Yoon’s remarks that he will go after corruption allegations of the Moon Jae-in administration if he wins the March 9 election.

According to the survey released by the Korea Society Opinion Institute (KSOI) on Monday, Yoon of the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) scored 43.5 percent and Lee of the ruling Democratic Party (DP) scored 40.4 percent. Compared to the previous week, Lee’s rating went up by 2 percentage points, while Yoon’s dropped by 1.1 percentage points, narrowing the two candidates’ gap from 6.2 percentage points last week to 3.1 percentage points this week.

The latest poll was conducted on Friday and Saturday, shortly after an emotional quarrel between Yoon and President Moon Jae-in.

It’s all about revenge.

The senior citizens with fond memories of former Pres. Park JH are angry at Moon for putting his dear daugher in jail.

They don’t care that Yoon once lead the prosecution against Park GH, that his wife may use her husband’s position to do a Imelda Marcos, and that Yoon may turn the ROK into the “Prosecutor’s Republic.”

All they care is that they want Moon’s head on the platter and believe that Yoon is the person that can give them that. Nothing else matters.

That’s why an overwhelming majority of them voted for him during the primaries and sneered when the twenty and thirtysomethings left the PPP after Yoon and not Hong become candidate.

Moon was elected because a crooked corporation overloaded a ferry with inadequate and disabled safety features. All the rest against Park was less than the known peccadilloes Moon and the two leading candidates have against them.

But that’s not important to those who invest themselves in political idols.

“But setnaffa,” you might say, “Didn’t you vote for Trump twice?”

Sure. Because Cankles and Joey Leghairs were objectively worse for America. But I also held my nose and voted for Wrongway Ford, Reagan, HW Bush, Bob Dole, the Shrub, McAmnesty, and Mittens. Because in every case the alternative was worse. As History has proven over and over.

We don’t vote for Messiahs. Well, commies do; but most people choose the lesser of two weevils.

Parksdotter got a raw deal; but she also proved herself inadequate for the role. As do most Presidents in democracies. C’est la vie.

I also agree that the cycle of prosecuting former Presidents have to stop.

However knowing Korean politicians and politics, I doubt that it will happen anytime soon.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if Yoon, assuming he is elected, listened to his hard core supporters and launched a full prosecution campaign against Moon.

But on the other hand, given the example of former Pres. Kim Dae-jung, who was more or less above it all(he could have made former Pres. Kim Young-sam, a scapegoat for the IMF crisis and used it as a basis to order the prosecution to look into suspected wrongdoings, but didn’t), I think we will eventually get there.
