We Americans are sorry that many of our mid-tier city mayors are as lame as some of yours.
Please take everything this fellow said with the understanding that it doesn’t mean anything good or bad for US-Korean relations. He was just trying to be a politician.
In the meantime, most Americans love the Koreans who live here in America and celebrate your people, food, and culture as rich additions to our own.
Just as you would not wish foreigners to judge all of Korea by a few misbehaving young soldiers or ambitious politicians, we hope you can recognize America is much more as well.
Feel free to visit if you wish. There are many thriving Korean-American communities across America where you would feel at home. And there are many new experiences as well. Just like South Korea is more than Itaewon/Yongsan or Osan AB/Camp Humphreys.
By the way, when COVID-19 is over, we hope the market for foreign tourists in Korea picks up and airline tickets (between USA and the ROK) are once again available for reasonable prices.
