There are several factions in the DPK.
There is the Honam old guard who served under and with Kim Dae-jung, who can be considered as the founder of the liberal political movement in Korea.
There is the faction that served under and with Roh Moohyun, which Moon belongs to.
Finally there are the 586 group whom Lee is a member and its leader.
Although they try to show a united front against the PPP, the above factions have their own interests, and from the rumors going around it seems like the two older factions aren’t that happy and excited about the 586 group represented by Lee.
For reference, the 586 group are the ones that participated in the student protests of the 80s and earned their opposition stripes by going after the riot police.
So yeah these guys have sharp elbows and the feeling that they were the ones with their actions bought the military dictatorship to its knees and ushered democracy, which helps explain things.
