21 Year Old Massachusetts National Guardsman Arrested for Massive Intelligence Leak
|I figured it was only a matter of time before the leaker got caught. There are ways of tracking down people who print out classified documents and post them online:
A Massachusetts Air National Guard member who has emerged as a main person of interest in the disclosure of highly classified military documents was taken into custody Thursday by federal agents, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced.
Investigators believe that the guardsman, who specializes in intelligence, led the online chat group where the documents were posted. Garland identified the guardsman as 21-year-old Jack Teixeira, and said he would be charged with the unauthorized removal of classified national defense information.
FBI agents converged Thursday at Teixeira’s Massachusetts home and heavily armed tactical agents took Teixeira, who was wearing a T-shirt and shorts, into custody outside the property, “without incident,” Garland said.

You can read more at the link, but from what I have read about this guy he was posting these documents to essentially win arguments and be the cool guy in the chatroom he was part of. Hopefully he spends more time in jail than the last major leaker to be a deterrent to this type of behavior.
Yeah, but the Yoon government claimed the docs were fake. So why the arrest? So Yoon was talking out of his behind?
Short dick syndrome gets these guys every time.
BUT, I blame his NCOIC and CO as much as Airman Dumbass.
How dare they let some FOB access stuff, copy same, and leave a secure area with it?
Kid needs 20 years breaking rocks. Right next to his leaders. Same rocks. Same cell.
Did anybody read them?
Let me fix that headline.
21 YEAR OLD MASSACHUSETTS NATIONAL GUARDSMAN ARRESTED FOR MASSIVE IGNORANCE LEAK
Some of the information in the document came from the Ukraine government as a source… when OSINST easily shows it to be wrong.
We can only hope no American decisions are made based of wishful thinking and lies…
…but…
CH, the crime is not about sharing truth, it’s about sharing secrets…
🙂
Top levels of leadership, civilian and military, have been playing fast and loose with classified information. Often for political reasons with partisan institutional support. Had he been leaking to the NYT or some congressional office, he’d likely be mostly fine. His main mistake, morality and ethics aside, was that he leaked for non-political reasons… assuming the leak was to the right side so to speak.
What the young man did was absolutely wrong, but young men often imitate leadership with political nuances they don’t understand and are not privy to are lost in the process. It shouldn’t be surprising that this type of thing is happening fairly frequently now.
If the government does not crack down on him hard it will lead to more leaks. But the inability of the leadership to get their act together makes cracking down on the grunt feel unfair. This causes demoralization which may cause even greater problems down the line. Lose-lose situation. The situation is only inflamed when certain grunt leakers act as proxy for political agendas and are protected.
I don’t know enough details to make a good cost benefit analysis, but it may be wise to be seen as not overly punitive. 20 years may be too much.
Satnaffa, I am making no comment on the dumb young guy looking big in front of his “friends”.
My comment is that some of the intel on Ukraine seems to show some level of American leadership appears to have bought into their own propaganda… or have been told to by some higher level of leadership which wants to put a good shine on a bad situation.
Dishonesty like this is dangerous.
It leads to poor decisions and surprise at the results.
