The Worrying Democratic Erosions in South KoreaIn recent months, authorities have raided offices of press outlets publishing critical reports on President Yoon Suk-yeol.
“So much of the foreign-policy establishment was gleeful when Yoon was elected,” Jake Werner, of the Quincy Institute, told me. The strategy of all-or-nothing competition with China has meant abiding the growth of other illiberal governments in the region. The White House, Werner said, has not dealt with the fact “that it’s authoritarians who are welcoming the direction we’re taking in foreign policy.” Narendra Modi, of India, has been fêted by Washington, despite abetting Hindu-nationalist violence, revoking Kashmir’s autonomous status, and censoring the media. Vietnam’s President, Vo Van Thuong, was untouched by criticism over crackdowns on press and civil society during Biden’s recent visit; police in Hanoi arrested an environmental campaigner a few days later. Yoon, too, is pushing South Korea in a repressive direction, back to the bad old days of the dictatorship, with no protest from his American partners.
What I said all along. Americans don’t care about the eroding freedoms of Koreans because they support a repressive regime that is arresting the opposition, the critical reporters, and manipulating the Supreme Court judges, and that is fu*king up the country in every way it can. All the Americans care about is winning this competition with China.
Nobody is going to watch your video… including me.
If you have some sort of message, explain it and use your video as some sort of proof.
Otherwise, you are wasting your time.

Thus, the tough talk to cover up his ignorance.

I didn’t watch the video. Nobody will watch the video.
The way it works is you give the key points and the key reasoning, and the video is supporting evidence.
Nobody has time to watch some dumbàss video.
If the video is valid, you can give key points and key reasoning.
If you cannot do that, the video is just a waste of time.
I am always interested in viewpoints that conflict with mine.
A rarely find one that is valid.
Actually, I rarely find one that isn’t an embarassment to the author.

Anybody following Ukraine?
The Republicans cut off Ukranian military funding for a month in the new temporary spending bill.
Don’t mistake this for Republicans caring about your healthcare or keeping you safe from feral looters.
They just know for some fùcking reason, the Democrats really want to damage America while killing as many Ukranians as possible to delay Russia doing what Russia is going to eventually do anyway.
This problably has to do with corruption and the needs of defence companies.
Now the Republicans can get more concessions on something or other that won’t much benefit anyone but Republicans in congress.
Of course the Democrats have a plan for this.
Since the Spring Offensive has been a failure no matter how you wish to measure it, from territory not retaken to lopsided casualty ratios to equipment unsustainability, the Democrats can’t show up to negotiations with nothing to show but a sinkhole.
So Ukraine needs a victory before the temprary spending bill runs out.
Frontal assaults across open minefields against an entrenched enemy with preaimed artillary and air superiority is not working, said Ukranian military leadership who has never studied military history and those bribed to get the exact outcome that is outcoming.
And we now live in a world where it is impossible to move men and equipment of any numbers in secret.
This means Ukraine has to do something small and quiet but with a big result.
It would seem the top two choices are:
– Destroy the Russian weapons depot in Transnistria. This would look like a big win with some great footage and a bit of media spin.
– Recapture the nuclear powerplant
Let’s see what happens.
Narrarator: The Russians were delighted Ukraine blew up the depot filled with ammunition so outdated that it was considered toxic waste and couldn’t be disposed of under normal conditions.
Stephen, like McCain, Jimmy Carter was a US Naval Officer. Like McCain, he got into politics and made choices that killed people; but Jimmy Carter was directly responsible for the power Robert Mugabe had, starting in 1980, in the murder, by weapons, starvation, and disease, of 30+ Million Africans. There was an election so crooked even the UN complained–far more evident than the crooked doings in 2020 in Georgia and Arizona–and Jimmah forced the results to be accepted.
The moderate Black candidate, a Bishop, was tossed aside for the North Korea-trained communist rebel who had lost the bush war, the large white-owned farms were confiscated and used as estates by the new nomenklatura, not enough food was available for the people of Zimbabwe, much less the neighboring countries who used to buy from them, and 100 Trillion Zimbabwean Dollars could be purchased on eBay for less than 20 US Dollars. Now you can get 5 for less than $17…
Zimbabwe got rid of Mugabe a couple years ago; but they will never recover from the economic devastation Jimmy Carter unleashed on them.
Τhanks for that information on President Carter Setnaffa … however … it was Margaret Thatcher who was in charge of the negotiations for majority rule … including the clause allowing a 2/3 majority in parliament to enact a change in the Zimbabwean Constitution.
After the depredations of Kim Il-sung’s gang on the men, women, children and babies of Matabeleland, Joshua Nkomo returned from exile in 1979 to stop the torture, rape and murder of the Ndebele, and Nkomo’s party’s votes then enabled Mugabe to become “executive president” … ie dictator for life untrammelled by parliament and the courts.
Margaret Thatcher also enabled the PRC takeover of both Hong Kong and Kowloon … only the New Territories were subject to the 99 year lease terms requiring handover back to “China”.
Thanks for Mugabe Maggie. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sorry, Stephen, you remember things differently than several friends whose families had to leave when their lands and businesses were seized. Jimmy Carter pressed harder than Thatcher.
To be fair, he probably had poor advisors; but he did a $#!+ job as Comnander-in-Chief, too… canceling the B-1 and letting the Soviets know about the F-117 before we had any flying…
I was flying on B-52s older than me at the time, and we had no “conventional” role, just sitting on nuclear alert every 3rd week…
I won’t celebrate his passing; but I won’t mourn overmuch.

Sorry Stephen, Jimmy Carter is a traitor to the true American way of life. What is your agenda here? Are you trying to make him into a hero?

I didn’t write the previous comment… and I have mixed feelings about the content.
Nobody responsible for starving Africans is a traitor.
Carter was not a bad man. He was simply a foolish one. This made him a poor president but not an evil one.
To his credit, his administration was so ineffective that even the damage he unintentionally caused was not permanent, unlike the Bush and Obama administrations.
And Carter is directly responsible for changing laws that allowed the craft beer revolution… which was a glorious few years before the good ones were bought out by corporate and changed into a Budweiser clone with a fancy name and colorful label.

China is destroying the ocean. Write to your government and ask them to intervene while there is time!!
A big shout out to our men in uniform who have helped the disadvantaged in war zones.
It is a beautiful thing to see the reunions decades later.

Well, CH, I see you’ve uncovered Hollywood’s “Major Malfunction”… though that was far from a memorable scene. Heck, Songtan Sally was a better actor, according to a friend. I was never certain he was actually in Songtan, as his office was allegedly in Seoul…
Now if we could get all of our Progressives up-to-date on their mRNA shots and boosters, we’d be closer to the CCP’s Zero COVID-19 policy.
Happy Chusok, everyone…
So here is more science. Use it wisely. And read the comments/replies to the tweet.

Setnaffa, relax.
I don’t post all the science anymore… just enough to keep up the stress level.
We have entered a new phase.
We WANT the vaxxed to get more vaxxed.
Even the pro-est pro-vaxxers admit the vax was not effective. Pretty much everyone vaxxed caught covid.
Now the consideration is about “safe”.
But we already know it isn’t. I would love to explain the real and probable aspects of this to anyone stupid enough to question me.
But, better, the vaxtards get more vaxxed.
How is the relationship between Iran and S.Korea these days? (this involves the US)
