Wandering the larger markets, eating at the restaurants where “normal” folks eat, and spending time with family and friends is far more valuable than being alone in an expensive but sterile tower.

I wouldn’t turn my nose up at a chance to enjoy staying at a posh place; but I’d rather we spent the money on our loved ones than strangers.

Reading some mainstream news, it seems clear the American public is being programmed for the end of the Ukraine war.

Let’s look at these guts and see what the squiggles mean.

Right here near the end of this intestine, you can note Russia is just relaxing and letting Ukraine wear itself out with disproportional losses while the world gloats about an imaginary stalemate. Once Ukraine gives up on attack and starts to build defense, Russia will become the attacker of a weak Ukrainian military. And Ukraine’s defenses will become victims of Russia’s superior ranged weapons.

How about a vaccine story where the side effects were beneficial!

A study from New Zealand showed that the HPV vaccine reduced preterm births by 23%.

That is a pretty good reason to get the vaccine even if you are not concerned about HPV.

That helped the government reduce some of the vaccine skepticism going around… which helped sell vaccines.

Of course, these days, some science deniers had to question the data, as it seemed odd to experienced medical staticians that there would be such a large beneficial effect when side effects are almost always harmful.

Surprisingly (for some), they found the numbers had somehow been reversed, and the HPV vaccine actually INCREASED preterm births.

That’s a silly mistake and a rather important distinction.

The authors retracted the paper when c̶a̶u̶g̶h̶t̶ the mistake was noticed… and gently said, “There may be an associated increased risk of preterm delivery.” Yes, there may be. Reversed numbers generally mean reversed results.

Should this all be done again to double check?

They would do it again… they WANTED to do it again… but the dog ate their data, or as they put it, “the authors have not been able to access the original source data as per protocol to check the data validity.”

The original source data was the New Zealand government… that only likes to share data when there is a plan to back their narrative.

That was embarrassing for the authors. And I feel bad for the unnamed, and possibly mythical, “inexperienced PhD candidate” who “inverted the data set.”

But perhaps it’s an honest mistake between not keeping a copy of the data, getting confused about reciprocal, forgetting to double check, etc.

S.Korea becoming a submarine superpower

Having these long-range lithium battery hybrid subs is probably a better idea than hugely expensive naval carrier groups. S.Korea needs to protect its trade routes because the US is increasingly disengaging from Asia, and it’s just a matter of time. The problem is, that nothing beats the nuclear-powered subs which S.Korea needs badly but can’t develop freely due to US opposition.

As NavalNews also noted, it remains a question for South Korea to find a long-term nuclear fuel supplier for its potential K-SSN fleet

S.Korea wouldn’t have this issue if it was allowed to reprocess its own nuclear wastes coming from its huge nuclear power plant industry. Again, due to US opposition. The US keeps S.Korea dependent on the US, while many in the US admonish the S.Koreans for being too dependent on the US. If they want to cut the cord, then really cut the cord and let South Korea do what it needs to do.
