U.S. Diplomat Says She Does Not See Direct Military Threat from North Korea and Wants Talks

With elections in South Korea and the United States coming up this year there is little incentive for North Korea to behave and return to talks:

The United States has not detected indications of “direct” North Korean military action, its top nuclear envoy has said, pledging to make “relentless” efforts to deter and constrain evolving threats from the recalcitrant regime.

In an online interview with Yonhap News Agency on Friday, U.S. Senior Official for North Korea Jung Pak made the remarks as the North’s pugnacious rhetoric and its continued weapons tests have deepened worries about the possibility of major provocations by the North and even of an armed clash on the Korean Peninsula.

Despite an escalation of threats, the envoy expressed her hopes for Pyongyang to further reopen its border to pave the way for diplomacy, while stressing Washington’s “sincerity” in its repeated yet unanswered dialogue overtures.

Yes, great idea. Talking to North Korea will force NK to give up its nukes.

Nothing will force North Korea to give up its nukes.

The ghosts of Saddam and Maummar will ensure that.

It is not a problem that can be solved. It is a situation that must be managed.

Only unserious people approach it from any other angle.

The US policy on Korea is based on NK giving up its nukes voluntarily.

“The US policy on Korea is based on NK giving up its nukes voluntarily.”

Perhaps they are unserious people.

It is a situation that must be managed.

In other words, a deal must be made with North Korea.

A deal that could have been made in Hanoi, but was foolishly thrown away by Trump when he listened to the war-mongering Bolton.

It seems that the Setnaffarians realize that a deal with North Korea must be made. A deal that will certainly lead to the USFK leaving Korea.

On the other hand, we can enjoy our lives without the North Koreans shooting missiles to gain attention.

“A deal that could have been made in Hanoi, but was foolishly thrown away by Trump”

No deal is better than a bad deal.

All of the Iranian deals have been shockingly bad for the USA.

“We can enjoy our lives without the North Koreans shooting missiles to gain attention”

It is harmless fun.

And remeber, today’s North Korean nuke and missile technology is tomorrow’s South Korean nuke and missile technology.

There might even be a deal between the Koreas.

“You supply the enemies of America and we will supply the allies of America. If they get on to our little scam, yell about puppet lackeys and shoot some missiles into the sea.”
