Constitutional Court Dismisses Impeachments of Government Officials by the National Assembly

Here is an interesting ruling from the Constitutional Court that these four officials impeached by the DPK controlled National Assembly should be reinstated:

The Constitutional Court of Korea on Thursday dismissed the National Assembly’s impeachment motion against Choe Jae-hae, who had been suspended from his duties as chair of the Board of Audit and Inspection, and three prosecutors, reinstating them immediately to their positions.

Thursday’s rulings were seen as a potential indicator of how the court might approach key issues in President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment trial, including his claim that the main opposition party has obstructed state affairs by impeaching key administration officials.

The court had yet to announce the date for Yoon’s verdict as of Thursday afternoon.

Yoon has argued several times during his trial that the main opposition Democratic Party’s attempts to impeach these four officials were among the reasons behind his decision to declare martial law, claiming that a succession of impeachments of high-ranking officials has paralyzed state affairs.

I’m not sure this should be seen as hopeful or not for fans of President Yoon. But it does indicate they’re not willing to knock over the whole house of cards…

GI Korea, do you think Yoon was guilty of trying to stage an illegal martial law? You have not stated on your opinion. But when this news first hit back few months, you did ask, “what was President Yoon thinking of when he tried this move?” That seems to suggest you thought that he did try to pull this stunt. As you know, Yoon’s supporters including the people in this forum, say that didn’t happen, and that there was no Martial Law. According to them, Yoon was just thrown into jail for no reason, and the commies are trying to impeach him without any reason. This was all made up by the “Korean Left”… according to them. So was this made up? Is Yoon innocent? Give us your opinion.

Korean Man,

It seems that was, to say the least, shocked that Yoon would pull a stunt like this, potentially jeopardizing the conservative government and paving the way for a return of the leftist administration, which could threaten his cherished agenda of ‘Keep USFK in Korea Forever’ and other right-wing priorities

However, once the dust settled, came to the realization that Yoon must not be impeached. As a result, he’s now posting material supportive of rejecting Yoon’s impeachment in hopes of his return to power.

He has consistently argued that it was within Yoon’s rights to declare martial law, regardless of the circumstances, and that Yoon was justified in targeting left-wing politicians simply because they ‘heckled’ him and his wife

That in addition to his constant efforts to find holes in testimonies that were not favorable to Yoon.

wants Yoon to return to power, despite the corruption and abuse of power perpetuated by him and his wife.

is not concerned with the well-being of the Korean people; his focus is solely on ensuring the USFK remains in Korea indefinitely and advancing right-wing agendas in the country.

You are absolutely right.

GI Korea has it completely wrong. Yoon’s defense centers on the claim that he never really declared the martial law. He claims that it wasn’t a real martial law. He says it was just a scare tactic to scare the opposition party into complying with his version of the “rule of law” (do as I say, or else I will declare military rule). Is anyone dumb enough to believe this excuse? Unfortunately, that’s what the PPP and their Yoon supporters are pushing. They’ve muddled this issue so much that a lot of people are just starting to believe it. Repeat lies hundreds of times enough, and what was once a clear-cut case in the beginning, becomes a “controversy”.

However, if GI Korea’s wishes do come true, and Yoon returns to power, that will not bode well for Korea. Giving Yoon a second chance to plan another military coup – would mean that Democracy in South Korea would die with his return. The country will be in an uproar, with protests on the streets again, and this time it might not be peaceful. Since Yoon doesn’t respect the court orders, once he’s in power again, he can railroad any bills by using the fear of retributions and intimidation. The fox will be in charge of the chicken house again. We all know what the result would be.
