David Albright Responds to K-blog Criticism
|There is an interesting series of postings and comments on both One Free Korea and DPRK Studies concerning noted North Korea apologist David Albright.
Start here and here with the DPRK Studies postings.
Then read here and here for the related OFK postings.
Both of them ask some fundamental questions which Albright continues to avoid in his comments. I believe Albright’s views on North Korea are motivated more by his own personal political views than real factual analysis. He has already put himself in a position of a North Korea apologist and isn’t about to change his position no matter how much he is challenged with facts saying otherwise, thus the evasive answers. It will be interesting to see if he ever provides any real answers to the specific questions posed to him.
At first I thought Albright would, when prompted, provide details of exactly how he was “misquoted,†and provide what he claims to have actually said. But after having asked – even challenged – him to provide that information several times, he has not.
He also basically stated that I (and Joshua) are ignorant of centrifuges. Ok, but when asked to provide the exact text that led him to that conclusion, he refused to answer. It’s sort of pathetic and bizarre at the same time.

There has been another incident involving a USFK soldier, which is really one of the oddest incidents I can remember seeing in recent years: Police said Friday they have detained two U.S. Army soldiers for attempted rape of a policewoman. The soldiers, identified only as a 23-year-old sergeant and a 21-year-old private first class from a U.S. […] Slipping Through the Cracks From the Stars and Stripes: A report of a foul odor emanating from Vail’s room led to the discovery of his body, hanging by a belt tied to a towel rack in the bathroom. The door to Vail’s room was locked, and entry was made through a partly open window. Medical personnel pronounced Vail dead at […] All Carrots and No Stick The North Koreans have until April 14th to shut down their nuclear reactor, which right now they show no signs of doing, while simultaneously the South Koreans are going to go ahead and send them 400,000 tons of rice anyway.  Even more appalling is that US financial negotiators appear ready to give North Korea back […] The Real Moral Bankruptcy of the Comfort Women Issue The Chosun Ilbo today has an editorial about a phone call placed between Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and US President George Bush. Here is what the reportedly discussed: According to Japanese media reports, Abe said in the 20-minute phone call that he had apologized to women forced into sexual slavery during World War II […] Korea Finder #37 So who can name where and what specifically is pictured below: Here are this year’s current Korea Finder Leader’s Board: Mark-7 Peekstr – 1 James -2 Note that who ever totals the most points at the end of the year, I will purchase for them a Korea related book or DVD of their choice using the proceeds I have accumulated […] Thai Government to Return North Korean Defectors Here is some breaking news courtesy of OFK: Just caught this story on naver – It seems about 52 defectors have been aprehended by Thai authorities and if convicted of entering the country illegally are expected to be sent back to North Korea. [Joongang Ilbo, Korean link] It looks like the new Thai military government is trying […] N.K. Diplomatic Children Crisis This story about North Korean diplomats not sending their children back to North Korea as virtual hostages is turning out to be quite interesting. OFK and DPRK Studies have great postings on the possible reasons and ramifications for this. Transgendered Koreans Sue Government From Yonhap: A group of transgendered people will file a suit in April to seek the legal right to change their genders in their family registries, a civic group said Thursday. The group said it will hold a briefing Saturday for transgendered people living in South Korea, estimated at 30,000, to help them join the collective […] Civilians Killed During Korean War to be Execavated From Yonhap: The South Korean government said Tuesday it will soon begin excavating the remains of civilians killed by their own security forces for alleged espionage or collaboration with communist North Koreans during the 1950-53 Korean War. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission said it plans to ask a team of experts to partner with an excavation […] All times are GMT +9. The time now is 01:53 PM. […]
"It’s sort of pathetic and bizarre at the same time."
To say the least.
It seems if Albright was misquoted he would be eager to set the record straight with direct links to verify the misquote. It could be a long wait for you Richardson before you get any direct answers from him.
