Cho Hyun-ah of “Nut Rage” Fame Convicted of Assaulting Her Husband

Cho Hyun-ah just can’t stay out of the news:

Cho Hyun-ah

Former Korean Air vice president and “nut rage” heiress Cho Hyun-ah was fined 30 million won ($2,460) for assaulting her husband but cleared of abusing her twin children by throwing a spoon at them and verbally abusing them.

Judge In Jin-sup made the ruling recently, the Seoul Central District Court said on Thursday.

While it’s not yet known if Cho will appeal, her husband, surnamed Kim, has appealed, arguing the court’s decision on the child abuse was wrong.

Cho Hyun-ah Tries to Take Over Hanjin Group from Brother

South Korea’s most hated Chaebol family member, Cho Hyun-ah is definitely not going away any time soon as she makes a bid to wrest control of Hanjin Group from her brother:

Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Won-tae, left, and former Korean Air Executive Vice President Cho Hyun-ah

Cho Hyun-ah, 45, whose family control the Hanjin group that includes flag-carrier Korean Air, made headlines worldwide with her furious reaction when she was served nuts in a bag instead of a plate in first class.

A series of scandals centring on abuse of subordinates rapidly made the Chos the South’s most vilified billionaires.

But now her struggle against brother Cho Won-tae could mark a watershed moment for the family-controlled conglomerates known as chaebols that dominate business in the world’s 12th-largest economy.

She has joined forces with an activist investment fund, Korea Corporate Governance Improvement (KCGI), which says better chaebol management will improve efficiency, employee engagement, and shareholder returns.

Cho Won-tae inherited the chairmanship of the conglomerate’s holding company Hanjin Kal after the siblings’ father Cho Yang-ho — who led the successful bid for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics — died last year.

But “you can’t just run a company because you happen to be a grandson of its founder”, said Lee Seung-hoon, KCGI’s head of global business.

South Korean Celebrities Accused on Social Media of Being School Bullies

Here is the latest “Me-to” like movement happening in South Korea which is going after celebrities who anonymous people claim were bullies in school:

Some celebrities and stars accused of bullying have denied allegations about their past deeds.

Countering an anonymous schoolmate’s claim that she was beaten and abused by a violent girl who later became a star, K-pop girl band (G)I-DLE member Soojin said she was not a violent girl when she was in school.

“It’s true that I was a bit unusual when I was a middle schoolgirl. There were always bad rumors about me which I was quite used to. I wore clothing that was not suitable for a schoolgirl. I once smoked, too, as I was curious about smoking,” she said in a statement she uploaded on her online fan community. “But there’s one thing I’d like to make it clear regarding the allegations. There was no violence involved. I know who the girl is but I never hit her or stole her school uniform or her other belongings as she claimed.” (……..)

K-pop star Hyun-ah is another denier about her past. An anonymous internet user claimed in a post on an online community that the singer was her elementary classmate and she was a violent girl.

How do you let something that happened in elementary school define and impact you your entire life as these accusers are claiming?

“Nutrage” Sister Fails to Remove Brother as Hanjin’s CEO

The younger brother has successfully held off his older sister of “Nutrage” fame of removing as head of the family Chaebol:

Cho Won-tae

Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Won-tae was reappointed as an executive director of Hanjin KAL, the group’s holding company, Friday, defending his management rights of the logistics-centered business group amid a sibling feud with his elder sister and group heiress Cho Hyun-ah.

During the holding firm’s shareholders meeting, the incumbent chairman defended his board seat by garnering 56.67 percent approval.

Cho Won-tae has been in fight for control of the group with a three-party anti-chairman alliance led by his sister.

Hyun-ah, a former vice president at Korean Air who is backed by local activist fund Korea Corporate Governance Improvement (KCGI) and mid-sized builder Bando Engineering & Construction, has called for the need to replace the leadership to improve the group’s financial status and shareholder value.

A day ahead of the shareholders meeting, the National Pension Service (NPS) announced its decision to vote for the reappointment of the group’s incumbent chairman as an executive director.

The state pension fund, which holds a 2.9 percent stake in Hanjin KAL, was considered to hold a casting vote in determining the chairman’s fate.

Korean Air Heiress Wants to Return to Family Business in Aftermath of “Nut Rage” Incident

It seems pretty clear that the brother is trying to sideline her because of the bad publicity her presence would bring. With that said people need to get over the whole “nut rage” incident. She was vilified, sent to jail, lost her job, humiliated, and then even divorced by her husband. I think she has been punished enough for turning a plane around at the airport:

Cho Hyun-ah, former Korean Air executive vice president, accused her younger brother Monday of not leading Hanjin Group in accordance with their father’s dying injunctions, signaling a sibling feud over control of the logistics-centered conglomerate.

Cho, who is notorious for her 2014 “nut rage” incident, released a statement via her legal representative, claiming that Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Won-tae is not following their father’s instructions regarding group management.

“Our father wanted the family to run the business together, but Hanjin Group is currently neglecting his last words,” Hyun-ah said through her legal representative.

Former Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Yang-ho died of a chronic lung disease in Los Angeles in April at the age of 70.

Their feud surfaced in May when the board of Hanjin KAL, the group’s holding company, belatedly named Won-tae as the group’s new chairman reorganized by the Fair Trade Act. Hyun-ah and her sister Hyun-min allegedly disagreed with their brother.

The three seemed to have reached a consensus when Won-tae told reporters that the three have ironed out their differences and agreed to work together. However, Hyun-ah has not yet returned to the family-run business.

No Time in Jail for “Nut Rage” Daughter and Mom for Hiring Illegal Maids

The biggest surprise for me is not that they illegally hired Filipino maids, but do you really need 11 maids in one home?:

The wife and the eldest daughter of late Hanjin Group Chairman Cho Yang-ho received suspended jail sentences for illegally hiring Filipino maids.

On Tuesday, the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Lee Myung-hee, the wife of Cho Yang-ho, to 18 months in prison, suspended. The court also sentenced Cho Hyun-ah, infamous for the so-called “nut rage” incident, to one year, suspended.

Korean Air was fined 30 million won ($25,660) in the case.

The Cho family members were charged with illegally hiring 11 Filipino women as maids by passing them off as Korean Air employees.

The suspended prison sentences for the two Cho family members are significantly higher than what prosecution demanded. The prosecutors had asked the court only to fine the two: Lee 30 million won and Cho Hyun-ah 15 million won.

Just two weeks after the Korean government ousted him as Chairman of Korean Air in a possible effort to nationalize the airline, Cho Yang-ho dies of lung disease:

Hanjin Group and Korean Air Chairman Cho Yang-ho has died at the age of 70 from lung disease at a hospital in Los Angeles.

According to Korean Air, Cho, who had been treated for the disease in the U.S. since last December, died just after midnight on Monday Korea time.

His wife, two daughters and son Won-tae, the president of Korean Air, were reported to have been by his side at the time of his death.

Arrangements are being made to transport Cho’s coffin from the U.S. for his funeral in South Korea.

An official from Korean Air said Cho’s condition drastically worsened from the shock and stress following the recent news of his removal from the airline’s board of directors.

Korean Air Heiress in the News Again for Allegedly Attacking Her Husband

You would think that after the Nut Rage drama Cho Hyun-ah would be keeping an extremely low profile:

Injuries allegedly caused by Cho’s violence / Courtesy of Cho’s husband

Cho Hyun-ah, 44, the Korean Air heiress who made headlines around the world for the 2014 “nut rage” incident, is being investigated for allegedly attacking her husband during divorce proceedings.

The Suseo Police Station in Seoul said Saturday that investigators started analyzing evidence provided by her husband, surnamed Park, 45, who claims Cho’s abusive behavior against him and five-year-old twin sons destroyed their marriage.

In a recently released video, Cho shouts “Die! Die!” at Park, who told investigators his wife repeatedly “strangled him” and threw a tablet PC at him, which seriously injured his toe.

On Feb. 20, Park said he was preparing for a long legal battle.

“I thought it would be better to put up with it, but when my child asked me, ‘Dad, would you protect me?,’ I was able to get up the nerve (to fight),” he wrote on Facebook.

“I’m afraid of standing up to a chaebol family, but as a father, I will protect my children.”
