Mother of Shinzo Abe’s Assassin Went Bankrupt After Donating $720,000 to the Unification Church

I can understand why this guy has a grudge against the Unification Church, but it in no way justifies murdering Shinzo Abe:

The mother of the man suspected of murdering former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe donated more than 100 million yen ($720,000) to the Unification Church, a relative said.

The contributions to the religious group included 50 million yen she received from a life insurance policy taken on her husband, as well as proceeds from property sales, the relative told The Asahi Shimbun.

She was declared bankrupt in 2002.

Her son, Tetsuya Yamagami, 41, has been sent to prosecutors on suspicion of murdering Abe, 67, who was gunned down on July 8 while giving an election campaign speech in Nara.

Appeals Court Rules that U.S. Military Will Maintain Majority Rule Jury Decisions

This is something that many civilians don’t understand that a military jury just needs a majority to convict someone. This makes the threshold of convictions easier:

A Germany-based military judge’s ruling that a unanimous guilty verdict was required to convict an Army officer facing sexual assault charges was rejected by the service’s top appeals court.

Lt. Col. Andrew Dial initially faced a court-martial in January, but proceedings were delayed after military judge Col. Charles Pritchard said that allowing a split verdict would violate Dial’s constitutional rights.

Prosecutors challenged that decision before the Army Court of Criminal Appeals, arguing that Pritchard’s ruling was based on faulty reasoning.

In a June decision, the appeals court concurred, saying it was not persuaded by the argument that because military and civilian court procedures are generally similar, military defendants are “similarly situated” to civilian counterparts.

“Rather, we adhere to the well-established view that ‘the military is a specialized society separate from civilian society’ which has, by necessity, developed laws and traditions of its own during its long history,” the court said.

This woman lost her mind on the subway and is now going to jail for it:

A Seoul court sentenced a 26-year-old woman to one year in prison Wednesday for smashing an elderly man on the head repeatedly with her mobile phone after a viral video showing the violent scene enraged many.

The incident happened in March in a subway train on Line No. 9 when the two got into a fight after the victim in his 60s chided her for spitting on the subway car. The woman was seen in the video shouting and beating the man on the head with her phone repeatedly.

The violence caused him to bleed in the head.

As the woman subsequently stood trial on charges of inflicting injuries and insults, additional violence charges were added for allegedly hitting a passenger and pouring a beverage over the passenger’s head in a subway train in October.

Former President Lee Myung-bak Released from Prison Due to Declining Health

Former President Lee is temporarily released from prison for health issues, but I would not be surprised if this is a prelude to him being pardoned in the near future:

Former President Lee Myung-bak (Yonhap)

The prosecution suspended the imprisonment of former President Lee Myung-bak for three months due to health reasons Tuesday, more than a year and a half after the Supreme Court finalized a 17-year sentence for him for corruption.

The Suwon District Prosecutors Office made the decision to release Lee from the Anyang Correctional Institution, after the 81-year-old former president filed for suspension of his imprisonment earlier this month, citing deteriorating health.

Korean Man Receives 25 Year Jail Sentence for Murdering Employee By Pushing a Plastic Rod Through His Rectum

This is an extremely bizarre murder in Seoul:

A 41-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Thursday for brutally killing one of his employees by inserting a 70-centimeter rod into the victim’s rectum.

The Seoul Western District Court found the man, only identified by his surname Han, guilty of murdering the employee at a children’s gym in Seoul with the plastic stick, which ruptured his organs and caused his death in December of last year.

“Severe punishment is inevitable as his crime is bizarre and brutal, and he did not have any kind of respect for the victim,” the court said in the ruling.

Liberal Youtube Commentator Fined $4,000 for Defaming Korean Justice Minister

This guy is lucky he only got fined because there were conservative journalists thrown in jail after their libel suits:

Rhyu Si-min, a liberal commentator and former chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation, speaks to reporters before attending his sentencing hearing at the Seoul Western District Court on June 9, 2022. (Yonhap)

Rhyu Si-min, a former health minister and an influential liberal commentator, was sentenced to a fine of 5 million won (US$4,000) by a court Thursday for defamatory comments made years ago about Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon.

The Seoul Western District Court handed out the monetary penalty after convicting Rhyu of defaming Han by making false remarks about him in public between 2019 and 2020 when the minister was serving as a senior prosecutor.

Rhyu, who formerly headed a foundation memorializing late former President Roh Moo-hyun, was indicted in May last year for alleging on his YouTube channel in December 2019 and in a media interview in July 2020 that a prosecution department led by Han at that time illegally accessed his personal bank account and that of the memorial foundation sometime between late November and early December 2019.

Han, picked last month by President Yoon Suk-yeol as his administration’s first justice minister, was serving as head of the Supreme Prosecutors Office’s Anti-Corruption & Organized Crimes Department when Rhyu alleged the illegal account accesses occurred.

“(Han) appears to have suffered considerable psychological pain from the defendant’s remarks, as he was recognized as a prosecutor who abused his investigative power for an unjust purpose,” the Seoul court said, noting Rhyu may have considerable influence in the formation of public opinion, particularly as a YouTuber with more than 1 million subscribers.

This is a horrible tragedy over in Daegu:

Paramedics move casualties out of an office building, believed to be the site of an arson attack, in the southeastern city of Daegu, June 9. Yonhap

A fire apparently caused by arson killed seven people and injured 50 others at an office building in the southeastern city of Daegu on Thursday, officials said.

Two Secret Service Employees To Be Sent Back to U.S. After Drunken Taxi Cab Related Incident

Any bets if the argument with the cab driver had to do with not running the meter and charging an exorbitant fee?:

Members of Secret Service Counter Assault Team (CAT) walk on the tarmac as U.S. President Joe Biden lands aboard Marine One in Chicago, Illinois, U.S., May 11, 2022.

Two Secret Service employees — an agent and an armed physical security specialist — in South Korea to prepare for President Joe Biden’s impending arrival are being sent home after an alleged alcohol-fueled incident that ended with a report being filed with local police, according to two sources briefed on the situation.

The personnel were assigned to help prepare for the presidential visit when they went out for dinner and then stopped at several bars, the sources told ABC News. As the evening progressed, the two Secret Service staffers became apparently intoxicated and the agent wound up in a heated argument with a cab driver, according to the sources.

26 People Arrested in Camp Humphreys Corruption Bust

This isn’t the first and likely not the last large corruption case to happen at Camp Humphreys:

More than two dozen South Koreans, including several employed by the U.S. military, were indicted on charges of employment fraud following a two-year investigation, South Korean police said Monday.

Twenty-six people, including 10 current and former U.S. Forces Korea employees, pocketed roughly $138,700 in exchange for preferential treatment of Korean job candidates between April 2018 and December 2020, the Daegu Metropolitan Police statement said.

USFK is the military command in charge of roughly 28,500 troops on the Korean Peninsula.

Two defendants, including an official with the USFK Labor Service Corps, were arrested according to police. The labor official and others are suspected of receiving between $23,800 and $31,700 from five job seekers in exchange for favorable reviews during their interviews.

The defendants allegedly created fake certifications required for employment. Police confiscated around $126,800 from the defendants prior to their arrest.

The investigation was launched after the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division obtained information about the bribes and relayed it to South Korean authorities. An Eighth Army spokesman declined to comment on whether the suspects were privy to sensitive military information.

“These arrests involved persons and activities that may be related to the Korean Service Corps and are currently the subject of a criminal investigation,” Army Lt. Col. Neil Penttila said in a statement Tuesday. “We will withhold further comment until the completion of that investigation.”

Anti-USFK Wacko Found Dead from Suicide in Prison

This nut job who attacked the Democratic Party chief for supporting US-ROK military exercises has apparently committed suicide:

In this file photo, a Youtuber who attacked ruling Democratic Party (DP) Chairman Song Young-gil is escorted by police officers at Seodaemun Police Station on March 16, 2022. (Yonhap)

A Youtuber who was arrested for attacking former ruling Democratic Party (DP) Chairman Song Young-gil with a hammer was found dead in an apparent suicide in a Seoul prison Sunday, according to correctional authorities.

The 70-year-old, only identified by his last name Pyo, was found dead at around 3 a.m. by a fellow inmate at the Seoul Nambu Detention Center, prison officials said. He was sent to a hospital but was pronounced dead.

Prosecutors are considering an autopsy to figure out the exact cause of death, as Pyo reportedly left behind a note, officials noted.

Pyo struck Song’s head several times with a hammer while he was campaigning in Seoul’s Sinchon area on March 7, three days before the presidential election, causing him injuries requiring stitches.

The man was known to have opposed South Korea-U.S. military exercises on his Youtube channel and targeted Song after he said last year the joint drills should be conducted as planned.
