Moon Administration Says It Will Increase Renewable Energy to 35% By 2040

Notices how the goals of all these plans are always way out in the future when no in power will be held responsible for not meeting them:

South Korea’s industry ministry said Friday it will significantly cut the country’s dependency on conventional energy sources, such as coal, and move toward environment-friendly resources for sustainable growth.
During the public hearing for a draft of the country’s energy master plan, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy said it will expand the portion of renewable sources to around 30 to 35 percent in its portfolio by 2040, significantly up from 7.6 percent posted in 2017.
The master plan is renewed every five years with a 20-year goal.
The ministry is expected to draw up details on the scope of the reduction in its energy supply plan that will be announced later this year.
The proposal is in line with the Moon Jae-in government’s push to move toward clean and safe energy sources to meet the country’s demand for electricity.
“The new policy goal will focus on reforming the structure of energy demand instead of expanding the supply,” the ministry said, claiming the master plan aims to build a high-efficiency and low-consumption energy market.

North Korea Completes Construction of Third Hydro Dam to Help Ease Energy Shortage

This just shows that even with all the sanctions on North Korea they still have enough money to complete large construction projects like this:

North Korea has completed the construction of its third hydropower station near its border with China, Pyongyang’s state media reported Saturday, in its latest effort to tackle a power shortage following heavy sanctions on the reclusive state.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un accompanied senior officials to visit the hydropower station built by a river near Mount Paektu in Paekam, Yangang Province bordering China, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said. It did not provide the exact date of his visit.

Kim praised workers for finishing construction four months ahead of schedule to present it to the Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), slated for May, the report said.

Two other power plants were built near the border area, but cracks shown shortly after opening the facilities in early October raised criticisms of its shoddy construction.

Completing three hydropower stations in a year was to “hit hard the heads of the U.S. imperialists and their followers hell-bent on their moves to ratchet up sanctions against the DPRK and stifle it on the principle of self-reliance and self-development,” the KCNA said in an English-language report.  [Yonhap]
