A Seoul court sentenced the scandal-ridden former fiance of Olympic fencing medalist Nam Hyun-hee to 12 years in prison on Wednesday on fraud and forgery charges.
The 28-year-old former fiance, Jeon Cheong-jo, was charged with swindling a total of about 3 billion won (US$2.25 million) from 27 people under the pretext of investment between 2022 and 2023.
Jeon presented herself to the victims as a secret heir to the high-end Paradise Hotel chain, enticing them with false investment opportunities that she portrayed as exclusively reserved for rich conglomerate families, according to investigations.
Jeon gained notoriety after breaking up with Nam, the silver medalist in women’s foil at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, following revelations that Jeon was legally a woman, not an heir to the Paradise Hotel chain and had multiple records of fraud.
This story continues to get weirder. If the transgender scammer Jeon Cheong-jo has not had a sex change operation than how did Nam Hyun-hee think he had a testicle transplant and got her pregnant?:

The former fiancé of fencing Olympic medalist Nam Hyun-hee is accused of committing a romance scam while still in a relationship with Nam, according to reports by the police on Wednesday.
According to the police on Monday, a man in his 30s reported the 27-year-old Jeon Cheong-jo for a romance scam.
The man told the police that the two made contact through a dating app several months ago.
He further said that Jeon had lured him with promises of marriage and subsequently requested financial assistance, with which he complied.
The man said that the photo Jeon had used on her dating app was her old photo when she had long hair.
However, during the time of the scam, Jeon, who was in a relationship with Nam, had short hair.
In a previous interview, Jeon said while she had a breast resection surgery in July and is currently taking hormone shots, she was still biologically a woman as she has yet to get a gender confirmation surgery.
The Nam Hyun-hee romance scam just keeps getting weirder after Nam explained on a radio program that she believed she got pregnant by the transgender scammer, Jeon Cheong-jo by her having a testicle transplant from a family member:

Fencing Olympian and medalist Nam Hyun-hee not only called her ex-fiancé the “devil” but also pleaded innocence regarding her former paramour’s alleged scams.
She even claimed she believed the ex-fiancé had gotten her pregnant using testicles donated by a disabled sibling.
“While it seemed impossible, I trusted Jeon Cheong-jo’s words that she got a testicle transplant,” the 42-year-old Nam said while appearing on a CBS radio show on Monday.
Nam told the radio show host that her ex-fiancé said the Paradise Group had another son who was hidden from the public due to disabilities.
Nam said Jeon told her that she received the testicles from the other son when he became an adult.
Nam said she was suspicious at first that she’d been impregnated by a person who underwent gender reassignment surgery.
“Obviously, as I was suspicious, I searched the internet,” Nam said. “But because there were limits [to what you could learn on the internet], I cautiously asked Jeon if it were possible, and she told me that she got a testicle transplant.”
Nam also said all of the pregnancy tests that she took at home came out positive. Nam previously said the test kits were pre-opened when she received them from Jeon.
Remember this story of a Korean Olympic medaling fencer that was conned by a transgender fiancé? Here fiance has now been detained by police for fraud:

Police detained the former fiance of Olympic fencing medalist Nam Hyun-hee for investigation on charges of fraud and attempted fraud, officials said Tuesday.
Nam, the silver medalist in women’s foil at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, broke up with her 15-year-younger fiance Jeon Cheong-jo last week, days after revelations that Jeon was actually a woman with a history of fraud convictions.
The website Oddity Central has a good write up about this case and Jeon Cheong-jo’s long criminal history and the lies she used to get Nam to marry her:
However this Korea Herald article speculates that Nam might be an accomplice of Jeon’s frauds that he committed against people while engaged to Nam. What is really bizarre is that Jeon was committing frauds before meeting Nam where he was switching his gender identity depending on who he was defrauding. What a weird story.
