17-Year Old Korean Girl Raped by Step-Grandfather for Six Years; Gives Birth to Two Babies

Something is not adding up with this story.  How did the grandmother not know about the rapes when the teenager gets pregnant twice?:

A man who raped his step-granddaughter over six years has been sentenced to 20 years in prison. The girl had two children as a result, according to court documents.

Suwon District Court said Thursday that the man, identified only as “A,” 53, had raped the girl, “B,” 17, since she was an elementary school student.

The attacks started when the girl moved into his house in 2011.

B is a granddaughter of the woman “A” lived with without official marriage registration. The woman took custody of the victim after her parents divorced.

The man was able to keep his attacks secret because he raped the girl when her grandmother was absent, according to court documents. He also told the girl: “I will kill you if you speak out about this.”

The grandmother learned of the shocking story early this year and reported it to police.

“It’s horrendous and shocking,” the court said. “Even though he has no criminal history, a heavy punishment is inevitable.”

The man claimed sex with the victim was “always consensual” and he did not know about the babies.  [Korea Times]

At least this is another example of how South Korea is giving out longer sentences to rapists.

Korean Teacher Arrested for Having Sex with 12-Year Old Male Student

I guess the moral to this story is that the teacher should have waited until the student was 13 which is just a creepy as having sex with a 12 year old:

South Gyeongsang Province education office director Kim Sang-kwon, middle, bows in apology for “inappropriate” relations between a female teacher and her 12-year-old male student, Tuesday. / Yonhap

A female teacher has been arrested for allegedly having sex with an elementary student.

According to police and South Gyeongsang Province education office, the teacher, 32, had sex with a male student, 12, in the classroom and her vehicle. They had sex several times between June and early August by what the teacher claimed was mutual consent, police said.

Having sex with a minor aged under 13 is punishable, even if it is consensual.

The case was reported to the police by the student’s parents, who found photos of the half-naked teacher on their son’s mobile phone.

They also found text messages from the teacher saying, “I love you,”and “I’ll buy you dumplings, come outside.”  [Korea Times]

Korean Lawmakers Pass New Law Authorizing Chemical Castration of Sex Offenders

It will be interesting in a few years to see if this new policy actually helps reduce the number of sex crimes or not?:

South Korean lawmakers have passed amendments to sex crime laws which will see those guilty of attempted rape and voyeurism subject to drug treatment, also known as chemical castration, in order to control their sexual impulses.

During the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon held on Tuesday at the Government Complex in Seoul, the government deliberated and voted on a number of reforms related to the law concerning pharmacological treatment of violent sex crime offenders, meaning offenders committing crimes of attempted rape, voyeurism, and rape involving minor victims will all be subject to chemical castration.

In addition, those serving a prison sentence and court orders of pharmacological treatment in the last nine to six months will be able to appeal to a court to lift the orders after being examined by psychology professionals to assess the risks of recidivism.  [Korea Biz Wire]

Korean Ambassador to Ethiopia Accused of Raping Embassy Worker

South Korea’s diplomatic corps faces yet another sexual assault allegation:

Kim Moon-hwan

Korean Ambassador to Ethiopia Kim Moon-hwan is suspected of sexually abusing a female embassy staffer, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.

It said Kim is also accused of sexually harassing several volunteers at Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), an aid organization under the ministry’s wing.

The ministry will send a team of internal inspectors to Ethiopia, Thursday, after investigating the cases on its own.

The revelation comes after a series of sexual offenses committed by diplomats over the past few years and a call for Kang Kyung-wha, the country’s first female foreign minister, to better protect the increased number of female officers.

The ministry said the victim testified against Kim during an internal inspection last week in Seoul of her superior who she said raped her after having a dinner and wine with her in Ethiopia, July 8.

“The victim testified that Kim sexually assaulted her, which she found very offensive, in addition to her statements about the case involving her superior,” a ministry official said.  [Korea Times]

Korean Man Convicted of Rape in Australia Received No Jail Time for Prior Rape in South Korea

It is pretty incredible that this guy rapes and assaults a female high school student in South Korea and gets no jail time:

A Korean man who fled the country after raping a minor was repatriated after committing the same crime in Australia, according to the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) Thursday.

The rapist, surnamed Hwang, 35, was initially sentenced to 30 months’ jail, suspended for four years, in 2010 for raping and assaulting a female high school student.

But during his probation, police and the prosecutors’ office investigated Hwang for breaking and entering in June 2012.

Sensing his probation would be cancelled, Hwang fled to Australia after a layover in the Philippines in July 2012.

The Korean court sentenced Hwang to an additional eight months in prison in his absence.

But even in Australia, Hwang’s old habits continued.

He was eventually caught and an Australian court sentenced him to nine years in prison on four charges of rape and attempted rape during his stay in New South Wales.  [Korea Times]

You can read more at the link, but this is another example of past lenient sentences for sex criminals in South Korea.  These past sentences were so weak that a Korean family had the rape of their son by a Camp Jackson NCO transferred to the US military legal system instead of being tried in a ROK civilian court.  The NCO rapist received a 30 year sentence for his crime while the guy in the above article rapes a high school student and goes free.

One of the worst sentences I have seen is when a 19-year old US Army private was raped by a taxi cab driver that picked her up at Incheon International Airport and he received no jail time because she did not resist enough.

US Soldier Stationed On Osan AB Accused of Raping Korean Woman in Gangnam

With the leftists emboldened every GI crime incident now has the potential to be blown up in the media.  So far this one has been kept pretty low key considering it happened back on April 1st and we are hearing about it now:

An American soldier faces a charge for sexual assault, the Gangnam Police Station said Monday. The soldier, part of the United States Forces Korea stationed at Osan Air Base in Gyeonggi Province, allegedly raped a woman after taking her to a hotel at 7:30 a.m. near a club where they met in Gangnam, April 1.

According to police, the woman had been intoxicated when she was taken to the hotel and then raped. She reported the incident to the police the same day, claiming she believed she was raped.

After about a month-long police investigation, in which the police analyzed video footage from the club and hotel, the police identified the soldier as the culprit. The police summoned the suspect for questioning June 17 and indicted him June 20, following the protocol of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), a mutual defense treaty between Korea and the U.S.  [Korea Times]

Just like with all the other criminal cases involving US GI’s this soldier will be prosecuted through the Korean court system and if found guilty will be put in Korean prison.  It will be interesting to see in the coming months if the currently emboldened anti-US groups in Korea will try to revive the narrative that GIs are committing all these crimes and then flying home with no punishment.

ROK Naval Lieutenant Commits Suicide After Claiming Superior Officer Rape Her

The ROK Naval Captain is claiming that the sex was consensual, but regardless the Captain shouldn’t be sleeping with a junior officer in the first place.  However, I am not sure if the ROK military has any guidelines against such behavior; if not it should:

A female Navy lieutenant, under the purview of the Navy’s headquarters at the Gyeryongdae compound, was found dead in her home on 5:40 p.m. Wednesday.

While the naval military police view the incident as a suicide, they arrested a male navy captain under allegations of having sexually assaulted the lieutenant the night before.

Her colleagues attempted to reach her by phone after noting her absence in the workplace.

When they went to her home and found she had apparently hanged herself, they contacted military police.

Near her body was a memo saying, “I guess I’m leaving empty-handed like this,” and “By tomorrow, I won’t be a person of this world.”

“There are no signs of forced entry,” military police said.

“She told me she was raped by a superior,” a friend told her family, who then told police.

The military police arrested a naval captain who was at the domicile.

According to naval military police, the two officers drank into the night at a departmental dinner. Police suspect the captain raped her after she lost consciousness.

“I can’t remember clearly cause I was drunk,” he said, adding that while they had sex, he maintains it was consensual.  [Joong Ang Ilbo]

Korean Man Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of Japanese Tourist In Seoul

After reading stories about how Korean police ignore crimes against foreigners by Korean men, it is good to see that at least this guy was arrested:

A Korean man in his 30s, surnamed Kim, has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a Japanese tourist he met at a nightclub in Gangnam, Seoul, according to Gangnam police station on Monday.

The tourist in her 20s reportedly visited the club with a friend and met Kim.

Kim allegedly sexually assaulted her after taking her to an emergency stairway.

He was stopped when security guards came to rescue the woman after hearing her scream.

“We heard a woman screaming and crying, so we sent our security personnel outside to check,” a club employee said. “We intervened and subdued the man until the police arrived.”

Kim denied the sexual assault charges, saying his interaction with the woman was with consent, police said.  [The Korea Times]

It does seem the Korean authorities are taking sex crimes against foreign women more seriously.  It wasn’t that long ago when this was not the case.

Poll Reveals South Korean Attitudes Towards Sexual Assault

The headline for the article states that 55% of Korean men link sexual assault with women’s behavior.  This is sure to get some people upset who believe nothing a woman does should cause them to be a victim of sexual assault:

More than half of South Korean men believe that sexual violence can diminish if women are more cautious about their conduct, a government survey showed Monday, revealing that society’s stigma towards sexual assault victims remains high.

In a sexual violence survey by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family on 7,200 adults aged 16 to 64 conducted from September to December last year, 55 percent of men answered “sexual violence can be reduced if women are careful.” The same response among women stood at 42 percent.

Among men, 54.5 percent thought “excessively revealing fashion” was a cause of sexual violence, while 56.9 percent believed that if a woman is raped while taking a ride offered by a stranger, they themselves are partly responsible as well.

Also, 42.5 percent of male respondents believed that if a woman goes to a man’s home after their first encounter, she is consenting to sex, while 8.7 percent even replied that some women “enjoy being raped.”

Meanwhile, 30.7 percent of women believed that “men cannot control themselves when they are sexually aroused,” while 22 percent of men agreed with the response.  [Yonhap]

Two South Korean Women Alleged That They Were Sexual Assaulted In Back of Taxi Cab In Taiwan

This is a pretty bold sexual assault to drug multiple women in the back of a taxi and then sexually assault them.  I am willing to bet this is probably not the first time this taxi cab driver has done this:

Two South Korean women said they were sexually attacked by a taxi driver while traveling to a night market in Taipei, according to local reports and the Korean foreign ministry on Sunday.

According to the reports, three Korean women hired a taxi around 6 p.m. on Thursday to visit the popular Shilin Night Market. The taxi driver, identified only by his surname Chan, was said to have given them a soft drink while heading to the market. Two of them, sitting at the back, passed out after drinking it while the one who was sitting in the passenger seat didn’t drink it.

Upon arriving at the market, the sober woman tried to wake them up, to no avail, and went to check out the market alone, thinking the two fell asleep due to tiredness. She went back to the taxi around an hour later to find out they were still sleeping. The three then returned to the hotel.

The next day, the two reported to the local police that they were sexually assaulted by the taxi driver.

On Saturday night, the police summoned Chan for investigation. They soon detained him as the suspect partially admitted to the assault in his testimony. He is reported to have said he only meant to touch them.

Meanwhile, a blood test revealed that the victims had sleeping-inducing drugs in their blood.

“The Taiwanese police detained the suspect for investigation and are likely to charge him,” an official from the foreign ministry told Yonhap News Agency, adding that the women have returned to Korea.  [Yonhap]
